So if you were at a little lake area where kids can paddle and people are sat dunking their feet and you witness young children of around age 6/7 attacking a duck with sticks and stones would you say something or would you just sit back and ignore?

I'd grab the stick off them and lecture them! I hate little shits like that.

I once saw a group of kids kicking a pigeon and I lost my shit. Poor bird had to be put down.

Chams or Socials

I’d have stern words with them & their parents & report to the police.

Unacceptable behaviour

Ugh. Other people's naughty kids. Absolute mine field. But if they're battering a duck I'd probably tell them not to.

I’d ask them to stop and try to explain that it isn’t acceptable any more than it would be if anyone were doing it to them.

Throw them in the water then say they tripped.

This was my thoughts! I’m 9 months pregnant and was at a lake area with a friend cooling off.

Because I was watching the kids and about to say something this friend said if you do I’m leaving…. Before I got chance to the friend buggered off and left me…. Without access to get home

I’m gobsmacked because no wonder there are so many little shits around when people won’t say anything.

It’s good to see the responses above saying you would do the same

Wait.

Then pick up a rock. Launch it at their parents. Wait for the reaction. Then ask why are they angry when their children are free to abuse other dumb animals?

Yup although that’s not the point I was more gobsmacked that the friends reaction was to not want confrontation and bugger off

I would definitely intervene. Animal cruelty is disgusting. I'd also want to talk to their parents, if they were there.

I'd be torn and devastated to lose anyone due to them doing what your friend did but that would be the last they would ever see of me and that includes family too (mine would be up as quick as I would thank fuck)

There’s confrontation and confrontation though. If someone was having a domestic or something or 2 men having a fight then i’d probably not get involved but how anyone can not do anything when someone is mistreating an animal is beyond me. X

OP I absolutely would say something. In fact, at 9 months pregnant I would still have gone and had words

As for the "friend" words fail me. Not only did they not back you up, they abandoned you heavily pregnant. I doubt that I could forgive them.

I would certainly say something. It doesn't have to be aggressively confrontational, not suggesting I would berate the parents or get violent, but they need to stop and if that meant I needed to stop them then so be it.

I understand why people don't intervene at times but that seems pretty black and white to me, and to have buggered off and left you is a crappy thing to do.

Northampton Somewhere

If there was a ranger around I'd go and see him/her if not I'd go and speak to the parents. That must of been quite upsetting for everyone around and as for your friend, family or not, I'd have a word with her to 1. For not backing you up and 2. For leaving you stranded. That is unbelievable!

Personally I'd be scrapping them off my Christmas card list!

Definitely say something, not on that kids don’t get scolded for basically trying to hurt an animal. I saw some kids the other day with sticks bashing a tree and I was about to say something (i refrained only because they stopped quick once I looked at them but if it was an animal of any sort I’d have)… like why would you bash a tree?
