I think it’s rather “throwaway” if I’m honest. Living down here in Devon, most of the time you are looking at a 70 mile round trip for the majority of your meets, and meeting someone from the same or close-by village is normally undesired because of small population sizes. distance is never really a problem down in this part of the world.

((Note this is a personal opinion, other people in Devon may disagree, your statutory rights are unaffected, vouchers will be offered in replacement if you are dissatisfied with your purchase))

It's a harmless comment but it can be taken as a very shallow interest in someone......

as in e.g. I only travel for 10 minute shags....

or

you are not worth a long journey etc etc...

It's just a throw away comment that's not deserving of time or thought really

I've said it as it can be the case but rather than a throw away comment, I'd only say it in context of a full message... I'd willingly travel but if someone is a two or three hour drive away and wanting to meet sooner, then it's applicable. I'd always hope to be honest that it was taken for what it was meant and that when some of say it, it does have depth and as a minimum, how it's taken as a compliment and that maybe some other point, things could be arranged. Having a message from someone that doesn't really know me or know if I'm attracted to them and they say they wish were closer is a bit odd and presumptuous.

I'd travel for someone I really wanted to meet and there's always the meet half way if it's really far to travel.

"Sometimes it's a blessing, others I really wish we were closer too

Totally. I often wished Lexi lived further away

You can't say that about Lexi!

Mind you it's not like she could punish you for saying that with a flogger as she can't put any power behind it, it's like being hit with a bunch of feathers "

I wouldn’t bloody mess with her!

"I think it’s rather “throwaway” if I’m honest.

Completely agree. And once you're in the car distance doesn't really make a massive distance....

Wish you were closer "

A lot of people we wish were

"How do you feel when this is said to you?

I often think "it's a bit presumptuous that distance is the only thing stopping us having sex"

There's a few people I'd like to live closer too. Just because we have bonded with them and feel that we would benefit from being in each others life's more. I think that is different from what you mean though.

If life was fair we'd all be local...but on a tiny island, nowhere isn't out of reach...OK, maybe Plymouth!

My initial reaction is “I drive. My FWB is 160 miles away so travel isn’t an issue”

Ready…

Why does distance matter, the internet delivers the messages, and if the messaging heads towards a meet then the distance issue can be resolved

"How do you feel when this is said to you?

If we're genuinely fond of each but live 300 miles apart, it's nice to hear.

If it's a polite reason I've given for not meeting someone I'm not attracted to & they bang on about it every time they see me post, then it pissed me off. X

"Usually I feel like it's a message which was pointless to send and clogs up my inbox, but I still appreciate the sentiment behind it

Interesting. I kind of see it as, because then I would shag you, without consulting me on whether I want to "

Exactly this!!!!

If it's a message from someone who you care about then it stings because distance can be such a bitch, especially with Covid, having a family and little money.

But if it's just from random people I couldn't care less.

It doesn’t bother me, but in a first message form a random stranger I’m a bit

It’s very much par for the course for me, I’m

next county down from Cornwall, so I have to travel over 100 miles just to get into Devon and if you’re cycling on a Brompton it can take upwards of 3 weeks to meet for a coffee, and by then I’ve usually been ghosted.
