Yay or nay ?

The sprint will be interesting, although I wish they'd explained it in more detail.

If there's a crunch during the sprint and repairs are needed will there be penalties for example.

As far as I understand it it is the same as if they crash in normal qualifying, gearbox engine etc you get a penalty

"Confused so is the sprint race like another quali for tomorrow but a race format??"

Yes the grid order is the finishing order from the sprint but the first 3 get points in the sprint as well 3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd

Im unsure of my thoughts on it yet. I'll see how this weekend pans out before passing judgment.

I thing I will say tho. Its definitely good for the sport. Guys I work with who usually have no interest have been asking about it. So it's certainly causing more interest. Which can only be good.

It will be interesting to see what happens if there is a pile up and then they have to get the cars ready for tomorrow.

"It will be interesting to see what happens if there is a pile up and then they have to get the cars ready for tomorrow. "

This is part of reason I'm unsure. Will the drivers be more conservative as they have the full race tomorrow or will they go all in and be aggressive. I do hope it's the latter for the pure entertainment value.

It is a fresh injection of excitement and shows F1 in a modern and progressive way. Which can only be good.

Obviously a lot of the technological advances that come to the modern street car generally start in F1 or other F series. I feel the sport has lost a bit of touch with the working class and seen as a sport aimed more towards the wealthy.

"When is the sprint actually happening.... don't want to be stuck in front of the telly all day "

its about to start, live on ch4

it could be interesting format, the front runners will just want to finish, as a crash would mean starting the main race on sunday at the back, but the tail enders have nothing to loose, so we might see some of them going for it, sprint races for quali have worked well in other series, lets see what happens with f1, could be interesting and throw up an interesting grid for the main race

The single point for fastest lap is fought for so the 3 points for the win and pole should be fought for too I hope

Newcastle and Gateshead

Actually the other interesting thing for me was the timings of the events this weekend…..

Having a 6pm qualifying I think works…

Will reserve judgment on the sprint because I think the big teams will play it safe

The fact the Grand Prix does not start till 3pm works for me as well

Let's hope your correct regarding the interesting grid line up. As u say mercedes and red bull could just want to finnish in one piece. Maybe settle for 3rd row and still have the pace to come out on top. Here is hoping Norris and Russell get a good result in sprint. Russell deserves a good result it's been coming all season. And Norris has been outstanding this year. To be splitting red bull and Mercedes in the drivers standings is an achievement on its own.

i worked with both norris and russel in a more junior series, both outstanding drivers, but from what i saw norris was abit quicker, but russel has a merc next year, so we will see, dont forget the rule change for next ear, who knows who will have the best car

. Lol. Imagine lol.

Definitely going to be exciting next year. New cars designed to diflec air up and over car behind allowing them to get closer in clean air. Should make for some interesting battles.

Be interesting so see who has used the new regs to their favour and developed a flawless car.

So does that mean Lewis is not on pole tomorrow?

A poor start

A poor start? Your a little late to the party I'd say. 4 pole positions of 10 so far this season. Converting only 3 to a victory. This is not the Hamilton we are used to. The Lewis we heard from yesterday after qualifying P1 reminded me of the young man we 1st met as the driver in the bright yellow helmet. Excitement and enthusiasm in his voice. The Lewis we heard from today seemed dejected as he has all season.

So to answer your question. No Lewis is not on pole and it's not quite the poor start u are suggesting.

Reading

I watched and from commentary. Drivers would not “Race” . Well a lot of overtaking done . My comment is yes this is good to get grid position for the weekend race. Cars are normally set up for qualifying . This time they have to go more laps and other cars are “Racing” to get grid position. Racing drivers always want to win ?

Between wisbech & Kings lynn

I likes the concept and a few interesting things happened that could effect main race but overall I think A) Silverstone is not the best track to show off the concept due to lack of overtake places & B) sprint is too long, drop max distance to 50km instead of 100km so there's no need to save tyres etc

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

Sadly not for me, but then I am a traditionist having visited my first Grand Prix in 1961 and watched its development through the Cosworth engine era right up to present time, albeit for the last few years on the T.V.

I now tend to find the British Touring Car Championship far more watchable than a Grand Prix, with all its strategists and tyre management et al.

I have to say I'm not a fan of this sprint race in the normal quali Lewis came first only to be dropped to second from the sprint race. No thanks stick to the standard quail and race.

F1 = boredom

And this from someone that used to follow it avidly during the Mansell years.

Can't stand Hamilton.

After watching Friday and yesterday i have to say i quite like this trial weekend. Very few of the teams have had much of a chance to get high fuel load long runs in, which in turn makes the result of the sprint race very interesting. Both Lewis and Max had completely shot front tyres after only 17 laps, in fact both of them were really shot after 15 laps. Considering they started with only a third of the fuel they would have for a full race, that only makes it more interesting. Silverstone, more often than not, is a one stop race. I think it would be a very brave team that calls this afternoons race a one stopper, especially as today is going to be even hotter than yesterday. Plus of course they will be starting earlier, which will be a lot hotter.

Scunthorpe

Although the sprint race was fun, I do wonder if it is just going to be an indication of what the race will be. I think it would have been better if they had a modified course for the sprint race rather than the same one... I suspect that Max will be 5 seconds ahead of Lewis in the first 5 laps, and then the front four will remain the same for the rest of the race... but we will see shortly.
