Are you also following of what is happening there and with the flooding in europe? They are evacuating the whole of liège, about 200000 people, they are advising them that they should leave if they can. I saw some video where they had to carry their belongings over their heads cos of the water was very high. I hope that they can return soon to their homes.

My neighbour’s garden flooded the other day. Mine didn’t as I have dug drainage. Rivers have been tamed when flooding is part of their cycle and surges contained by nature’s efforts further upstream.

The more we build and try to contain the worse it will get.

It’s unfortunate but we need to live with the planet rather than develop it.

Exactly this, swathes of land are being developed and covered in concrete, rather than allowing natural drainage to occur.

I do hope there aren't too many causalities though

In Germany they build "for eternity" as they say, houses cost more because they are built so solidly, with cellars etc. Seeing these solid constructions being swept away like cardboard boxes is scary.

People were totally surprised by the floods when the rivers burst the banks and quite a few are still missing presumed drowned.

there was a field with a huge dip in the middle near where i grew up, it always flooded, we used to swim in it when it did, they then built 2 thousand houses on it, guess what happened????

In Derby there's a pub called The Wardwick, and there's a plaque screwed to the outside which says "Height of The Flood 1st April 1842", it comes up to about chest height on me, and I'm 6'1".

We are having to demolish some newish buildings that I worked on about 25 years ago, so that Derby City Council can complete our flood defense barriers along the River Derwent.

In fairness, climate change has been taken a lot more serious at an earlier stage in the EMEA - we are lagging behind.

That said, clearly, collectively we are not doing anywhere near enough.

Absolutely - I know it sounds daft but I do no longer buy fresh food that has done airmiles. It is a start.

We have replaced some of the daily meat/ fish by more vegan/ vegetarian options.

When we occasionally have meat, the portions are smaller.

It is possible - and not that difficult.

Unfortunately climate change is not going to be reversed quickly So we do also need crisis management action. Look at any town or city in the UK and see how much green space has been covered in hard concrete, front garden uses for parking,etc. If water can't soak into the soil of course it will build up in huge quantities.

Truly awful. But similar natural disasters have been happening in developing nations for years and people tend not to feel as much sympathy for them. When it's a closer neighbour or perhaps, people who look/seem more like us, then empathy levels are higher.

its not so much co2 emitions, you know the great baddy that everyone talks about, more co2 comes out of mount etna in a year and the rest of the volcanos in the world than we could ever produce, we cant stop that, yes we dont help, but there has always been flood planes to deal with heavy rain, our ancecters knew this and didnt build on them, our population increase in eaurope has ment more of the land is being concreated over, the water has nowhere to go, so floods happen, the uk is way over crouded and this needs to change, there are no loosers, flooding will decrease, meat production will reduce, house prices will reduce to a level that the younger people can afford, i dont know what the answer is, but things like banning cars etc is a knee jerk reaction that in the great sceam of things isnt likely to make much of a difference, the main problem is that there are too many people globaly, using finite resorces, this has to change
