Compliments.

How good are you at paying someone a compliment?

If you're with someone and you think they look nice, would you tell them so?

Would you compliment someone on who and how they are?

Or do you just think it and not voice it?

Is there a difference between the sexes on compliments?

Do men or women compliment more or is there a stigma that compliments come across like there's a ulterior notice behind them?

I'm finding men quite often don't get compliments and I think it's such a shame. And no this isn't a woman bashing thread!

I compliment women regularly (and genuinely), but I only compliment men that I feel safe with.

I’m good with compliments, and I only give them if I genuinely feel it. There’s nothing worse than trying to say something you don’t believe. I don’t think I took my eyes off the keratin I met last time… every smile and compliment was genuine.

I once complimented a friend of mine, she’s a lesbian and there was no motive behind it….

Unfortunately I finished the sentence with ‘today’

You look great… today! She tore me a new one

I’ve seen a lot of things recently on social media about saying someone looks beautiful, and women don’t like it, so I tend to stick with compliments who I know well enough to know my intent.

I don’t do well with compliments and deflect them faster than they left the mouth haha

I'm good with them for sure. But I do feel like I'm being a bit creepy sometimes. Don't know why just do. The compliments aren't even creepy like haha

I am better IRL with compliments

On here, a lot assume they are used (by men) purely as an attempt to get nearer to the knickers being dropped

?

I like to give compliments, but will only do so if it's genuine...I probably compliment men more than I do women, especially at work (probably because I work in a male dominated field, but also because I generally feel more comfortable around men)

Ive given plenty of comments to ladies in shops. When there trying clothes on and then looking in the mirror at themselves.

Ive pipped up often when they ask the shop owner if they ok in this outfit.

Ive asked if they would like a mans point of view and asked if they want an honest opinion.

The last person i said looked really loverly with the coat and she really did do.

It showed her hips off and down her legs, it also enhanced her bust line really well as she had a loverly hour glass figure to her.

She was also looking at what I was saying, As I was still searching for stuff in the shop.

I always ask if you want the truth as you will be told it if you want an honest opinion.

If someone looks great/is good at something/is just a real good person I tell them, I've been accused of being a flirt over it tho... Perish the thought

There and to the left a bit

I only compliment if I genuinely mean it and do so regardless of gender, both here and in real life.

I rarely join the "compliment the poster above" type threads because unless it's someone I know, it seems fairly shallow to pay a compliment based on a picture or text and therefore somewhat "false flattery".

If I'm out or with someone I know though I'll tell them they look nice, or how they've done their hair etc but only if I really think it

Compliments that come for the right place are always welcome those that come with a undertone of the possibility of gaining something for your own benefit I’ve no time for, you can see right through those ones.

I’ll happily compliment men and woman when I notice a characteristic or physical feature I like xx

Newry Down

Heartfelt compliments are so rare in this cynical age that some folks do not respond well, and exhibit a frisson of irritation at an attempted manipulation.

But Covid-19 has changed a lot of people; they enjoy genuine human contact, and smile reciprocatively.

I will compliment people if there is reason too…. Nice dress, smart suit, shoes etc. It gives people a feel good factor to know someone has noticed and made the effort to say so.

On a mooch

If they deserve it, they get a compliment. I don’t say things that aren’t true, just to boost someone’s feelings.

I've always been better at complimenting guys for some reason because I'll genuinely think they're wearing something cool or their haircut looks decent.

I've alway been afraid of complimenting women first as I don't want to come across as flirty so wait for them to do it first
