How often

Secret hideaway in the pennines

How often do you reach out to people you know are struggling, be it health wise or mentally, not just on here but in the real world.

Having gone through traumatic loss and alcohol addiction recovery I tend to find I am more empathetic and willing to reach out the those close to me, or that I consider to be friends and try to do what I can, even if it's just comforting words.

Letting them know they are not alone or offering that hand when they stumble.

Who else is the same

I am, but at the same time I do have to keep my own house in order or I'll overspend my healing levels on others and neglect myself.

I've spent the last 2 days helping my friend coz she's poorly and am quite often the person others come to when in a dilemma

alot more people need to be. I found my self homless a few years back, makes me appreciate all I have now and makes me a little more understand of others. I give when I can and quite regularly sit with someone sleeping rough with a coffee and have a chat.

Sometimes life gets in the way. I would like to think that I'm available to a friend in need but don't always reach out first.

I don't have to reach out to people that much, a lot of people come to me when their struggling. I like to think I help them as much as possible. But if I notice somethings a little off with someone, I will also reach out to make sure.

We all need a helping kind hand now and again

I never ever reach out and no-one would know what exactly is going on in my life, I keep things very close to my chest and don't let anyone in.

On the other hand I will be there for anyone who needs help, I'd gladly drop everything and do/say whatever I could x

I have no need to reach out anymore.

Those I did broke that trust.

So now I help others if I can when I can

I don’t. Everyone who’s close to me knows I’ll be there in a shot if they need me. I don’t like people reaching out to me or asking me questions or mollie coddling me, I like to be left alone so if other people need me they know where I am and they know I’ll be there.

The reason I don't is because most people who say they care, don't give two hoots in all honesty. In their company its whatever you want to hear but as soon as your out of sight, you are out of mind.

I totally agree . In my case my so called friend repeated our conversation to the wrong people.

It didn't end well

Due to my recent health problems I found myself in a situation, in which I had to reach out to others for help. I then discovered how much is actually available to even a ‘loner’ like me. People who I knew on a semi friendly way, would offer to put themselves out to ensure I was ok.

It was truly heartwarming and I’m sure aided my recovery.

I have actually been quite emotional with some of them due to their kindness. So any thoughts that I’m truly on my own have left me, there’s always someone who’ll come to my aid, if I need them.

So, it’s taught me to ensure I’m also available, those who supported me I now owe, they know it as well. As I don’t think I can now walk away from someone who’s struggling, it’s taught me a lesson that I’m more than willing to learn.

So if they or someone calls for help I won’t ignore it or pretend I didn’t see it, if they need me I will help.

I know it’s dangerous to keep bottled up so yes lucky to have a select few who do get me, do try to be there for others but know to be careful as people can abuse your trust and harm us even more

I’ve reached out to people on here when they are struggling, but I’m going to stop now, because every single time, men turn it around into something sexual.

It’s shame because I think this can be a lovely community at times.

Also, I think it’s important to be in a good space yourself, if you’re going to reach out.

There’s a couple of people I check in on every 1-2 days and a couple others maybe once a month. That’s about as much as I can give, like peachy says you can only give so much and have to take care of yourself or you’re no good to them. I need to be checked in on occasionally too !

i know you did.

i also know how it can get to you when people throw the help back in youre face.

you question yourself a lot, wonder why often say you are giving up.

but you do it again, thats you. who you are.

its why many adore you for that
