Years ago our toddler son had an accident which would have been terrible if he hadn't been wearing one of those all in one padded suits with a hood when he fell head first into glass.

A woman told me they all have guardian angels. I was , the kids who are currently dying from horrible diseases, the ones in Afghanistan, the 15 year old who died in the floods in Germany...are their guardian angels just really rubbish or something?

No, I don't believe we have them, I just think some of us are luckier than others.

No but I do believe that there are good people who look out for others more than themselves and they often present as guardian angels.

They often need the most looking after

My aunt died when I was 7 months old...I was her favourite because she couldn't have kids...my nan was pushing me in a pram when she stopped and thought about my aunt...a car then drove into a wall where my pram should have been...if my nan hadn't of thought of my aunt and stopped...I would have been killed

Maybe if your pram was there it would have been more noticeable and the car wouldn't have crashed at all?

They actually believe more than we do, faith is usually increased through suffering, not decreased, maybe children are naive but in informed adults suffering in faith , going into the nature and meaning of suffering brings a lot of understanding and ultimately peace.

I think there are real people looking out for me and I look out for a few people.

My family, friends and a few enlightened people will protect.

I wish we were ultimately held to account for the good and bad at the end of it all but I think the light switch is just flicked and we are done.

I remember them in Tube Trains........ self appointed guardians but lets face it they did deter assault etc and did make up for a 'sparse' police presence.

Berets n neck ties n stuff....... funny

No but I don't believe in any diety.

I think if they do exist, it's in our own mind and that they bring people comfort, for when we don't have the answers we need. I also think humans are driven to want to feel protected.

There and to the left a bit

I think it's easy to fit an explanation such as a "guardian angel" or similar around events that are unexplainable to try and understand them in our heads when usually it is simply a case of there is no explanation, it just happened that way.

Explaining it somehow though can provide a degree of comfort or sense of higher being looking after you.

Personally I just take the "if it was meant to be, it was meant to be" view without trying to explain it.

Lots of people need explanations for everything. I'm one of them but I can accept coincidence as a random sequence of events that work in my favour. There are plenty of times that the random sequence works against me or is neutral,I don't think any of it is divine intervention

Not in the accepted sense, no. I think God is in us. You know on the bible where it says God created us in his own image"? I think we created god in our own image, we're far more powerful and have much more influence over our own destiny than we think

I think a lot of religious texts and ideas were meant to be taken metaphorically, as moral guides, and not literally.

The idea of angels and devils (who are fallen angels, banished from heaven) represent our best and worst natures, so when we and those around us follow our best impulses then yes, this can help look after and protect ourselves and others.

"Do you think there’s someone protecting you, or do you think it’s all rubbish and we look after ourselves?"

Personally think it’s in people’s heads, but if they get something from it and it doesn’t hurt anyone else, there’s no problem.

I think relying on things like guardian angels just distracts people from the positive changes the can affect in their own lives, and deprives them of the confidence they rightly deserve when their choices and actions play out in a way that hugely benefits their lives.

It would possibly be so nice, if we did but I view it as most unlikely, similar to a God.

Maybe if your pram was there it would have been more noticeable and the car wouldn't have crashed at all?

"Years ago our toddler son had an accident which would have been terrible if he hadn't been wearing one of those all in one padded suits with a hood when he fell head first into glass.

A woman told me they all have guardian angels. I was , the kids who are currently dying from horrible diseases, the ones in Afghanistan, the 15 year old who died in the floods in Germany...are their guardian angels just really rubbish or something?

No, I don't believe we have them, I just think some of us are luckier than others."

Couldn't pass this by, and please don't anyone get offended and incensed by a funny thought that popped into my head when I read this.

What if......

Guardian angels are real, maybe it's a job in the afterlife when your time has come. Maybe there's shift patterns, changeovers promotions, and training just like in normal jobs.

What if....

Your guardian angel is a total Muppet? Or hungover!

Does that explain people who are super clumsy or accident prone? People who seem to have endless bad luck or those who seem blessed with good fortune.

What if.....

We're all just a random angels day job?

Is it a bloke a woman or a non gender specific guardian angel and have you ever see him , her , they , it ?

They would surely be genderless? Spirit guides are different to guardian angels anyway (oops, did some weird leak out )

So underneath they look a bit like Barbie's Ken or Actioin Man ?

Granny, you can’t look at the rudey bits, honestly, anyone would think we were on a site with lots of nudity or something

Granny only ever looks at the rudey bits. When she goes shopping she always buys two tomatoes and one cucumber, or two apples and one banana. And she always insists on buying half a guava. It’s just her way.

She’s a shocker

Sometimes I build a DecandentDevon with a chantenay carrot and a couple of rambutans

Have you seen it, I think you need a large cucumber

“It”. Fucking “it”. Well really!

Oh I’m sorry, does HE have a name

Philip

Phillip Phallop !"

Well really!

I think if God intended for you to have a guardian angel you would get one whether you were asleep or not.

How insightful......

So you think it's possible that it's a case of the deserving being guarded by God.... he lets the rest of humanity rot....

How does he judge if they are deserving or not ?

Like does everyone in prison not have one ?

"Years ago our toddler son had an accident which would have been terrible if he hadn't been wearing one of those all in one padded suits with a hood when he fell head first into glass.

A woman told me they all have guardian angels. I was , the kids who are currently dying from horrible diseases, the ones in Afghanistan, the 15 year old who died in the floods in Germany...are their guardian angels just really rubbish or something?

No, I don't believe we have them, I just think some of us are luckier than others."

Funny how such people always believe the angel is responsible for the 'miraculous' save but never blamed for the accident that the person needed saving from. Maybe its just me but ensuring your son was wearing PPE ahead of him tripping seems a lot more complex than simply stopping him from falling into the glass?

Sounds like the perfect gig to me, if you fuck up people either ignore it or just say you don't exist, you never get blamed but every time you pull off even the slightest little trick everyone is full of praise. I am thinking of applying for the role tbh

Presumably the kids starving to death in Yemen are all little fuckers then that don't deserve an angel?

Mr"

He was only wearing the suit because it was cold. It was an incredibly happy coincidence but a year previously my brother was involved in a terrible motorbike accident that wasn't his fault and from which nearly thirty years later he still suffers the consequences. I suppose his guardian angel was on a tea break or something or a random series of events lead to him being nearly killed...

"Yes I do believe in them

Do you have one Emma ?"

I believe I do, and I think you can have more than one. It's not about them magically being able to solve life's problems, they're there to give you courage and little steers in the right direction. They'll be there when you need them the most in mysterious ways. Mine were as much my angels on earth as now they're no longer with me

Agreed. Gaurdian angels are real people....People who do good things for others, listened when you need someone to listen, or helped you when you are at worst in need

Not some ethereal being.

Makes me laugh how a non existent omnipotent being gets so much praise yet so many 'real people' get overlooked

I do a little bit just because I am a bit soppy and there is a lot of things that feel like more than luck has a hand in. There is also an awful lot of shit happen they must be looking the other way at, nobody is perfect. Not even the angels! Meant to look out for white feathers to show they have been about. I told this to my daughter who waa having a sifficult time recently, and one day she came back to a beautiful full white feather on the doorstep! I nearly cried when she told me. So yes I believe

I think it's just a comfort thing. Some believe and some don't. Like white feathers, life after death, butterflies, 'everything happens for a reason' , and why people follow religions.

Comfort or place to feel safe or guided.

I do not believe in supernatural creatures or Devine interventions but I think we all have the ability to be Gaussian angels for each other. Not that we sit on people’s shoulders and redirect mishaps etc. More a little bit of friendly advice. Helping someone across the road. Basically by being kind to one another.

It's probably better to accept what can be substantiated and explained by our current knowledge and capabilities, rather than fanciful stuff that defies common sense.

All rubbish or confidence that we rationalise. Unless you count being tailed by MI5

Agree. Shouldn't belittle someone for having faith, religion whatever you call it. Am finding it hard not to contradict myself though so i might as well. The miracles and incidents (such a pram story dude) that are a clear indication they exist to that person, i hope they have more evidence than that. The Pram story is a classic....id need a bit more than that happening to me and preferably not be a baby at the time to sway me, otherwise what other stuff am i walking around thinking to be true. A little belittle but not meant in a mean way or to suggest relative pushing pram is telling porkies.
