"1970s school dinners"

Nottm had a club called school dinners, waitresses were dressed as st trinians, headmasters with canes n slippers, if you spilt your custard ,asked for seconds or complained about the lumpy gravy you got whacked, it was hilarious ,it was at the sherriffs lodge if l remember ..My mate stuffed a neano anual down back of his trousers , got caught ! So school dinners a no no

Something that was supposed to be jelly at a classmate’s birthday party.

It was in plastic tub with peel off lid like a yoghurt; it was opaque turquoise, had a dried crust on it and it tasted like hate.

The tub would have been tastier.

Weird thing hated mushrooms when I was a kid but now love them. Always hated custard and trifle. Don't like onions but if cooked in something I can deal. Never liked fish though makes me heave and never liked cabbage, blame my nan there she used to drink the cabbage water and the smell used to make me gag x

Childhood for me seemed to be endless fish and chips, crab paste sandwiches, crisps, stew, roast dinners and lovely pies and puddings.

School dinners were horrendous though until they just did chips with fish fingers etc.

Salad was corned beef and jersey royals with a dash of juice from the pickled beetroot. Tomatoes I hated as they were served unripened and from the fridge. Was years before I appreciated a decent tomato!

In my teens I discovered mushrooms, greens, kebabs, pizza and garlic sausage in pitta bread.

Yellow dyed smoked haddock was replaced by properly smoked stuff. I had my first curry at 19.

My life saver has always been Worcestershire sauce with everything! I intend to be buried with a bottle.
