A horse has been bitten by an adder at an animal sanctuary in North Wales and the poor horse has died as a result. Who would think that an adder could bring down a horse

Well, adders are poisonous, the only venomous snake in the UK, so it's not surprising that occasionally they kill something.

The story says it's an adder but is it a coincidence that they filmed the Jungle with Ant and Dec last year. Who knows what slithered off that film set.

I have never known an adder kill a horse and surely you don't find them in a cold country like North Wales

When I was stung by a scorpion I was very lucky that we had a medic on site.

It made me jump when it happened, felt like stepping on a drawing pin but then I had a feeling of being crushed and knew I was in trouble.

I shouted out that I was dying and help was quick.

Just found the story.

The truth of it is that it wasn't the bite that killed the horse.

Thus was an elderly gelding, and the sanctutary owner had noticed he was still lying diwn and noticed it had a swollwn leg.

The vet determined it had been bitten by an adder and they were concerned about possible risk of heart attack so they took the decision to put the horse down.

Horses die everyday for all sorts of reasons Tom. It is unfortunate and always sad for the owner. But let’s look at this rationally, how many horses die each year from an adder bite and how many die from being made to race and jump for human entertainment?

couple, us we him her.

I've read the story in-depth.

Apparently the horse owed the snake quite a lot of money and he had been warned about not paying so the adder took him out with a Glock.

It's believed to be a mob related incident.

I almost lost a pet dog to an adder. They go for the throat, which in turn balloons and the poor creature suffocates. Luckily my dog was saved.

Pretty impressive considering their numbers are in decline.

Or perhaps we are entering their habitat more and more as we build thousands of houses each year.

This ^ it was 30 years old, underweight when it arrived at the sanctuary and being treated for arthritis. It was the kind thing to do as the horse was obviously in distress.
