Largely education i.e. schooling, listening to others, learning from others, conducting your own research on the net etc.

Not always right, but OK with admitting I'm wrong if I am.

I will look things up if I am unsure and if I was wrong, then will readily admit it.

Unless it's a point of principle with no hard and fast rules, in which case there is no right or wrong answer.

In which case you have to do what your head and heart tells you and live with the consquences, whether the decision was the correct one or not.

And if your instinct tells you the way home is to the East and you end up further away from home then someone moved your house ?

Serious answer : There are, philosophically speaking four types of knowledge : Empirical, systemic, semantic and logical knowledge. Does that answer the question at least in parts?

Nobody "knows".

We remember information which has been given to us... But... Even empirically... That information may be erroneous...

Two plus two doesnt always equal four... (I forget why...)

What I know today is different to what I knew yesterday and what I know tomorrow will be different to today. I don't hold knowledge at a point in time to be accurate/factual as new information is always being realised and affects my understanding/perception of the world around me hence I will rearly have a definate opinion. I will always qualify comments and am loath to make a statement as I am aware of how little "knowledge" I possess .

Should have added that I am happy to make comments based on my observations but how I see and interpret the world around me is influenced by so many individual factors that I suspect that each of us would arrive at a different conclusion

I do count my change as a matter of good practice not as a matter of instinct or knowledge.

I do use Google but not instinctually nor do I believe every word I read when it throws 'knowledge' at me. So how do I know which answer to choose? Which is right ?

I haven't said you are wrong but my experiences so far inform me that instinct is only a tiny part of knowledge.

I can honest say that there hasn't been a day that's gone by that some new bit of information hasn't come my way. Every conversation had, observation made, article read and random thought adds, challenges and either changes or reinforces what I currently "know". Lots of what we 'think' we know, is actually only how we perceive it.

Lot's more of what we think we know is down to trusting the people we think ARE in the know ie. scientists

When it boils right down to it, nothing is certain... so I guess we know fuck all really

How do birds know which berries are good to eat and which are bad?

How did sheep all start rolling over cattle grids at around the same time?

We see education as putting knowledge and skills in but the latin root means to draw out. It's all in there somewhere, we just have to find the route to that knowledge.

Failing that I will go with 'because' and 'cos I said so'.

knowledge for me comes through experience

Text books can be altered and what one book will say about something you can find another saying the opposite.

We can always find something somewhere to back up what we think is right and someones else can then prove you wrong.

Everyone learns and gains knowledge through the steps and decisions we make.

Jeez that was heavy from me

need an asprin now
