Just wondering if anyone on here does Pilates, yoga, or any other mobility work.

Particularly those who are into weight training, or distance running.

I think my youth is expiring and and I'm noticing ever so slightly that my mobility isn't what it was, and after a run there's strains in tendons.

Just wondering if anyone on here can advise me from the been there, got the t-shirt club?

I do a lot of yoga and there's always plenty of men in the class. I recommend it to everyone.

DeFranco agile 8 for lower body.

Foam roll every night upper and lower body, hockey ball for tight spots.

Loads you can do to loosen up

If you can afford one get a Theragun, not a cheap ripoff but a proper the proper Theragun brand. Plus yoga is amazing, did it for 5 years and changed my body

Yoga for strength and flexibility. But find a good experienced teacher. You might like Iyengar if you're into fitness and discipline. Or yoga nidra is great for recalibration, tension release and awareness.

I love putting on music and dancing and stretching for 20 mins or so.. Every move being something that feels good to my body. This is great for instinctive mobility.

Treat yourself to a Thai yoga massage with an experienced practioner.. You won't be disappointed!

Also.. Rest.

I got cheapy one too but at one of my gyms they have the proper ones, I find it a big difference. Apparently it's because they penetrate much deeper like proper percussive therapy.

Since I’ve had lots of leg injuries in the past - I swear bumpy the use of Yoga / Pilates to achieve good body posture & achieve better recovery from long runs.

Have lots of books if you’re interested. (To borrow/have) x

Yea, I have been very active in trying to get my mobility sorted. Years of weight lifting and not focusing on it take their effect as I have gotten older.

I did yoga before and found it good but not enough. I used to do all the foan rolling etc but found it a bit of a waste of time really. It just softened my muscles for a short term gain but I never gained any further mobility at the end range.

Active stretching and mobility work has really helped. Guys like Tom Merrick on YouTube have been allowed me to make great strides.

Ultimately I have found a lot of my poor mobility has come from weak muscles in certain areas rather than a lack of flexibility. This was despite being able to squat, deadlift bodyweight and 2x bodyweight. Weak hip flexors, calves and abductors all impacted my mobility greatly.

Yeah I do think I'm getting in my head.

Just went for a 10k run, stretched out after following instructions a friend gave me from years ago, and just realised how much effort parts of the mobility movement were, how much strain my Achilles tendon felt.

I'm sure the anxiety over it is making it feel worse, but given that beyond the workouts I do, and weekend hiking, I'm pretty much always at a desk or a lab bench, it wouldn't hurt to get mobility right early.

Especially if I want to keep trying with weights and running.

I use a baseball to blast at the knotty, tight shoulders I get. Tried yoga and Pilates but didn't really work out. Might try seated yoga and see what that's all about.....

Yoga has changed my life, I can't recommend it enough. I'm now desperate to try acroyoga, which can combine Thai massage with yoga and acrobatics. It looks absolutely beautiful.

Try the GoWOd mobility app. You can do a mobility test and then it will give daily routines in the areas you need it.
