Which Hammer Horror movies are your favourites?

Mine had to be the Dracula and Frankenstein movies.

What does make me laugh is near the end of Dracula A.D. 1972 when Van Helsing takes on Dracula and you hear Van Helsing's heroic theme that was heard at the beginning but has a 70s feel to it. It sounds so cheesy and makes the scene kind of hilarious lol

Captain Kronos Vampire hunter.

The Gorgon.

Any of the Dracula films as that’s where I got my love of chiffon nightwear from.

The Devil rides out.

Hound of the Baskervilles.

The more I type these, the more I want to go to Amazon and get a box set

Somewhere In The Ether…

I love Hammer films

Personal favourites: Dracula and Plague Of The Zombies.

They were pretty much all great though, even those which are considered by critics as the studios lesser efforts.

I heard that Captain Kronos was pretty much the 'Blade' of the 1970s.

It was in effect In fact it was planned to be the first in a series of films featuring the blonde, swashbuckling vampire slayer.

Alas, the plan sadly never came to fruition though

I watched it recently and was happily surprised, that it still stands up quite well. A mixture of horror and swashbuckling I mean it goes as well as chips and gravy

Love all the Hammer Horrors from the Dracula in '57 through to To The Devil A Daughter in '76. Can't pick just one fave!

TV's Hammer House of Horror and Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense are still brilliant too but the Horror episode of The Thirteenth Reunion is still considered THE masterpiece.

The Collinson twins….

Did you know that they were also the first ever twins featured in Playboy?

Dracula with Peter cushion and Christopher Lee when I was a kid was something I couldn't watch but now they're tame compared to modern horror

Somewhere In The Ether…

Another Hammer film that always gets overlooked (possibly on account that it doesn’t feature either Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing) and one of my favourites: Vampire Circus.

I remember it scared the crap out of me as a child as the head vampire seemed to have a predilection for preying upon children(!!!)

We also like the Amicus films which are similar to Hammer. Films like

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors

The Skull

Torture Garden

The House That Dripped Blood

Asylum

Tales from the Crypt - Joan Collins is great in this one

The Vault of Horror - Love Tom Bake in this

And Now the Screaming Starts!

From Beyond the Grave - Probably our favourite

We recently bought the Hammer series on BluRay, they still look after all these years.

Great shout!

Tyburn Studios also supplied some very good, Hammer-like efforts including, Legend Of The Werewolf.

Meanwhile Tigon films released the absolutely brilliant, Blood On Satan’s Claw.

I remember a movie that is not exactly a Hammer Horror but it does have that feel of it known as Theatre of Blood starring Vincent Price.

Pretty good movie that one.

Does anyone remember The British Lions film, The Beast Must Die?

Peter Cushing and the super cool, Calvin Lockhart headlined in this horror/mystery which famously freeze framed in one scene and challenged viewers to guess the identity of the werewolf.

Great stuff!

Yeah. I remember that bit when the pies are revealed with the poodles' heads on them.

"My babies!!"

I do admire how creative the kills were in the movie with each resembling something out of each Shakespearean play.

Absolutely, I’d have mentioned it but as it wasn’t a Hammer film didn’t bother. It’s a great film, the werewolf break and Calvin Lockhart a black actor in the main role (handsome chap ) also added to its uniqueness for the time.

The horror double bills on a Saturday night on BBC2 was a highlight of my week, when these types of films would be shown.

I may have not have seen the Hammer House of Horror series but I do remember an episode known as The House That Bled To Death where it had a kid's birthday party and a pipe breaks free on the ceiling and starts pouring blood on everyone.

For me it has to be their first tussle with the vengeful guardians of the ancient Egyptian gods in The Mummy of 1959. Despite being wrapped from head to toe in bandages the combination of unstoppable, vengeful power and pathos that Christopher Lee brought to Kharis is something which no film before or certainly since got close to bringing to the genre.

I've just been lucky enough to order the movie on DVD earlier.

Just Hammer: Dracula. There's something really sexy about Christopher Lee in that film.

Any B movie horror: the Masque of the Red Death. It has a very European gothic feel to it, and Vincent Price is always worth a watch.
