Scariest TV Shows

There have been many scary TV shows in the past decades. Which ones were your favourites?

Mine has to be The Twilight Zone and Goosebumps.

The Twilight Zone theme tune used to creep the hell out of me as a kid but have always loved the show.

Goosebumps is kind of like The Twilight Zone for kids but more focused on monsters and other supernatural entities. It's interesting that R.L. Stine who wrote the books was an actual fan of Rod Serling and The Twilight Zone and it gave him the inspiration for his books.

Back in the day the hammer house of horror series did provide some scares. I was a kid who loved anything hammer. I remember there was one episode with a witch who clawed the heroines partner just before she overcomes the evil witch. Was well made, but creepy.

Indeed. The story where the landlady turned people in dummies was disturbing as it indicated she gutted her victims and then stuffed them with her taxidermist skills.

The Royal Jelly episode was pretty sick with the guy turning into a bee.

I remember one episode called The House That Bled which appeared on 100 Greatest Scary Moments showing a pipe spraying blood all over everyone at a birthday party.

"And the main vampire with big teeth

Wasn’t he called “The Master!” "

That was what Straker (James Mason) - his human servant - called him. His name was Kurt Barlow.

Giving rise to that brilliant line in Mason's softly sinister voice: *Oh you'll enjoy Mr Barlow... and he'll enjoy you."

I think if you were a little kid, like I was (9 or 10) when Salem's Lot was first shown you've never forgotten it. I remember being absolutely terrified watching it. Definitely one of the scariest TV shows ever.

There was a childrens programme in the 70s that involved some kind of puppets coming alive at the end of the garden locked in a shed of some type.

Have tried looking for it on the internet but couldnt find it.

That was scary.

I remember being really affected by that, until someone pointed out to me that it was obviously scripted and showed me evidence, then I was finally able to sleep with the lights off again .

Not sure if anyone remembers the programme the tripods? That certainly caused a few nightmares.

I watched that and both my sister and I were too scared to turn the telly off and just ran upstairs leaving the lights on. I watched it again on YouTube last year, well maybe about half an hour before I got bored. How we didn't know it was fake even as kids is beyond me. I just think maybe we were a lot more innocent in that era compared to today where kids have a lot more intellect around media.
