"If you can afford the potential addition to longer journey's (by having to stop and charge it) then I'd go Tesla. For me, the A-Class isn't very special and the Tesla wins in "cool" points. Plus the yob in me really wants one with a "ludicrous pack" " Don’t have that sort of money but 0-60 In 5 seconds used to be the stuff of dreams

"I have a hybrid now & would definitely go full electric in the future. " Why is that, I thought the merc was a very nice car well made and equipped if somewhat bland on the outside. It definitely wasn’t a drivers car a product of two different drive trains often it didn’t know what it wanted to do. I have driven a Tesla and no such issues with that.

"I have a Orange BMW 330e M Sport Hybrid and it looks way "cooler" than a Tesla thats for sure ha ha Not sure what it is about a Tesla but they just don't look right outside or inside, very plain and basic to look at. " I agree that the new Tesla model 3 is very bland, but i like The model S.

"In what reality is a Tesla cool????? It’s ok if you don’t think they are" I know they aren't cool though. Just got to look at how many of them have a reg that they want to look like tesla even if it's tenuous to say the least. And the line of bored looking blokes at services when they are on charge is in no way cool. Nothing says you have no interest in cars than going electric.

"I’m the fortunate position of being able to change my car. Have a rather elderly mini bit have the option of having either a Tesla or an A class merc hybrid. Obviously there are other options out there but these two satisfy my select criteria (which I won’t bore everyone with) Merc is cheaper and there isn’t the whole range anxiety issue. Tesla is faster better to drive and there are less of them about so possibly cooler?!? What do people think" Don’t get an A class , they are like fiat 500 for little girl leaners

"I wouldn’t recommend a Tesla to anyone. The electrical running gear is BRILLIANT but the rest of the cars are appalling. We are talking 70s British leyland build quality. There’s a reason the running gear is the go to for conversions but I wouldn’t be a Tesla customer. " My son in law was about to buy a Tesla, a conversation with a couple of his friends who drive Tesla's about poor build quality has made him change his mind, He has now ordered BMW M5 hybrid.

With the way the government has been lately after the health secretary's behaviour and the bull shit thay speek , all the people in the uk will be driving round in milk floats and then we would probably see boris in a v10 f1 car . If anything gets my sense of humor. Rant over

I won’t be putting a private reg on one, and I won’t be spending any time charging it cos it’ll already be charged at home. As for no interest, I’ve ridden driven flown and sailed just about anything that has an engine. It’s more about doing the actual driving than it is about what powers the bloody thing for me.

"In what reality is a Tesla cool?????" I was thinking this.. they also aren't very rare.. I saw 9 today minimum... and I didn't even go far. To be fair the fact that electric are completely impractical I'd take a hybrid If that was my only choice of car.

" Rear end is a bit bulbous compared to the sharp front end. Wheels need to be bigger and whilst the low stance gives a sporty look it is pretty impractical for UKs speed bump ridden roads. The interior however is far superior to anything else in its class. I love my a200

I saw a lot more Mercs tho that’s for sure. Coolness is subjective, I’m not sure why you think electric is impractical. It’s got 5 seats storage front and back is easy to drive and there is nothing better to drive round town as no gears and no clutch. Sounds pretty practical to me. Ok have to charge up every 200 miles for the one I’m looking at but I can’t manage much more than that with out needing to stop myself.

" If you do long journeys like the one you mention above often you will need to factor in the extra hours you will be sat in a service station charging your car back up to full on every journey you do, this can make a full electric car impractical to people who like to travel a lot. Also depending on where you live Tesla's are very popular, they are a very easy option for company cars now and where I live there is at least 15 on the estate I live in alone. So in time they will be everywhere in mass quantities as people start to change over.

" I probably only do a big journey 4 or 5 times a year, the rest of the time the furthest I drive is around 100 miles well within range. Well you are very lucky to live in such an affluent area, I do see them about around here but they arnt common, when I test drove one recently a neighbour commented on the unusual nature of the thing.

"Loving my new Tesla Model 3. No build or quality issues with it. There were with some that were made in the US but the ones now coming from China are much better in comparison. If going electric I would recommend changing your electricity supplier to one of the cheap overnight tariffs like Octopus go. So many new ev’s coming out now but range can vary so much between different ones. The Tesla supercharger network just makes it so much easier if you tend to do quite a few miles. " It’s the supercharger network that is the decider for me, there are some cars around that have greater range, Kia and Hyundai but they can’t take advantage of the super charger network.

"Now the real issue in deciding for most people is if the limitations of the electric car work with their lifestyle. If you don't do very long single journeys, then range anxiety is thing of the past. Also, if you have a driveway, then a home charger is a very real option. Right now I drive a Toyota hybrid, with another hybrid on order. I love it! If you want a hybrid, Toyota lead the way! It's got more than enough power (185bhp) and the type of driving I do gives me range of about 450 miles. Held off on full electric as Toyota are bout to launch their ground up new electric BZ range. I expect it to be very good. " I am getting this though work, the Toyotas would be a natural choice but in fact work out dearer than the Mercedes I’m not a badge snob I just want the best car for the least amount of money

"As previously discussed depends on what you are going to use it for. I have previously had 2 hybrid cars (bmw's) and currently have a Tesla (owned for about 20 months) Hybrid - If you have daily small roundtrip journeys of 30 miles then a chargeable hybrid would be prefect. Cheap to run and no range anxiety for longer 250+ mile journeys as you can fill with petrol I found on my hybrids the petrol fuel consumption to be terrible. Full Electric - I changed for company car tax reasons and always have anxiety when my phone goes to 20% charge so was apprehensive. Honestly I shouldn't have worried, real range of 280 miles (and I have a lead foot), loads of charging stations and the charging time can be as little as 20 mins 20% to 80% at a high speed Tesla charger. I test drove the Jag ipace & Audi e-tron, both nice cars but real range was 210 miles and as yet don't have the fast charge infrastructure that tesla have. If you choose electric make sure that whatever you buy cab accept a charge rate of 350KW (20 min charge). Check google as there's lots of sites that will give you the time to charge on different wattages. As a side point (although now very common) I love my tesla and have had fast cars previously but nothing can prepare you for the acceleration and thrill you get when accelerating faster then a Porsche/Ferrari Good luck " I only have the option of a standard range plus which has a 250 mile range, tho I’m expecting it to be more like 200 I probably only do 4 or 5 journeys a year which exceed this
