.

The people - their passion, the way they express love through food, the arts. The importance of family, of loyalty.

The language - melodic, gorgeous, a rippling lexicon of absolute beauty and meaning.

The Arts (not art) - their contributions to the arts, whether that's through literature, sculpture, art. Absolutely amazing.

The scenery - whether that's crystal blue seas and lemon scented air of the Amalfi Coast, the cosmopolitan Sienna dripping in culture and traditions or the tourist filled beauty of Rome and Florence.

My friend Ercole

Such a good human

Our paths were destined to cross

We chatted online 10-12 years ago

At the time he was living in Italy

We lost touch so never met

Then about 2 years ago, I went to London for the weekend and on Brick Lane Market I noticed a guy 'checking me out'

I recognised him instantly

We have been friends ever since

Hull

One of my best holidays was in Italy, back in the mid-70's, staying at a hotel in Cadenabbia on the western side of Lake Como.

I was on holiday with a Choir and Orchestra, but with impromptu concerts arranged at short notice. We did one at La Scala Opera House in Milan.

But the best things I remember were:

The ancient preserved churches & cathedrals, especially in Milan.

Going to the Opera at Verona.

The food, especially the varied meat dishes and of course, their Ice Cream.

The scenery.

The madcap drivers!

Must go back one day.

I agree.

I’d say

The landscape (Dolomites, the chianti region, the lakes and the seaside are gorg!!)

The dolce vita ..( I mean the dolce vita life style which is a bit slower, u go for aperitivo and pizza with friends)

The fashion (Armani, Fendi, Gucci, Versace, Valentino, PRADA! I could keep going)

The food (like cmon… GELATO!!!!)

The cities and their history (Florence, Rome, Milan, Verona, Venice, Lecce, Catania… they all have such a rich history and you can feel the beauty surrounding u)

Sienna is my favourite city in the world. It’s dripping in history, atmosphere and the food generally is incredible.

The Italians have a strong family-oriented culture that underpins their work ethic. It’s part of the reason why everyone else in Europe thinks they’re lazy bastards to work with, as they never seem to be at work. They’ve got it spot on!

The architecture in Florence. It’s beautiful, grand, clever and timeless.

I don’t know about their fashion. Their men generally dress quite conservatively. I’m not one for a “fashion house” per se.

As for contributions to arts, you can’t doubt the past, bit not sure what they do for modern culture - happy to learn!
