But I guess, if legends are true, that football was invented in england and we win a tournament in that game as a national side (for the first time since 1966) then we are showing we are the best at a sport we invented and so bringing it back home.

Best I can do as I'm sitting in my car putting off going in to work.

I don't even like football really lol but I'll be watching on Sunday.

It doesn't need to make sense, just like toast in tea, there is no rhyme or reason it just simply makes sense.

The Town by The Cross

Football originated here .....

Whole villages played. Women, children and men. No goals in those days, just lots of kicking up and down streets and hills trying to keep posession.

Laws got tightened up to stop people from marauding through businesses and near homes etc. and football found itself on a pitch of sorts.

Money came into the game. The rest is history.

It should be the game of the people but it truly fookin' isn't......

So if we win ..... Football is coming home.

The words make perfect sense if you know the history and haven't just got experience of modern capitalistic football.

On a mooch

It’s a simple reference to the fact we were hosting a major tournament in 1996, for the first time since 1966.

After failing in that tournament it’s now more about bringing a trophy home, finally, hopefully

I forgot the most important part........

Men forced women OUT of football. Well societal expectations did AND.....

When you think of all those local teams that play every weekend....

While DAD is out playing a game with his mates.... Who is minding his children? Making his sandwiches to take with him ? Washing his kit when he gets home.

There are so many men who don't give all of that a second thought.

Without their partner , they couldn't hold down a job and keep house and play sport ( most of em )

*puts soap box away and fucks off *

Now that makes more sense ... bringing a trophy home... albeit not the big one

Not the World Cup no, maybe next year but now just to win a trophy after 55 years of waiting will be quite something

But why.

If you are going look at it logically nothing about football makes sense. It grown men kicking a ball about and getting paid millions. And before anybody starts I know woman play the game as well.

You are right but the point is why does a song about football have to make sense when the whole thing about the sport doesn't.

Just arguing for the sake of arguing really are we not?

Sweet Caroline for me, especially the chorus, is just capturing that feeling, that moment, the hope and the belief they might just do it after all this time, plus a bit of joy after this last year

Sweet Caroline

Good times never seemed so good

Sweet Caroline

I believe they never could

I meant first proper club

Notts County are considered to be one of the pioneers of the modern game and are the oldest of the world's professional association football clubs (there are older professional clubs in other codes of football, and Sheffield F.C., an amateur club founded in 1857, are the oldest club now playing association football).

The home of football is England. The Football Association in England is the only one in the world that refers to itself just as 'The FA', all others have their country of origin in front, Scottish FA, French Football Federation, Brazilian Football Confederation etc.

Ergo, if we win, its coming home

No place here for common sense and logic.

You MUST be outraged at something. It's the law.

When companies like Sky pay £4.5 billion to screen the women's live games, they'll get paid the same as men.

The women's game is growing, thankfully. Women are now being seen as pundits in their own right. Alex Scott will be hosting Football Focus.

Huge strides in the ladies game and rightly so.

FA’s words

According to the Football Association, non-league Sheffield F.C., founded on October 24th 1857, is the world's oldest club, and Notts County, founded in November 1862, is the oldest league club.

Although if I remember rightly Crystal Palace are staking a claim to be the oldest club founded in 1861, not sure if it has been proved or a decision made

There where a lot of teams before Sheffield, Sheffield are the longest surviving club, but definitely not the first

The idea that football originated in England is open to conjecture at the very least. The whole notion of it ‘coming home’ is dodgy, but it seems to feed the notion of English exceptionalism well enough so I guess it’s here to stay.
