Ipod problem

My son has an Apple Ipod, he took it to work and put it on a docking station, it was fine until he decided that he didn't want to listen to a particular track, pressed skip and a face came up, now it won't switch on at all, even when he connects it to the computer, nothing happens. Anyone have an idea of what is wrong with it?

Judging from the following article it may need a restore or a trip to your nearest Apple Genius Bar.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339

Beware though that restoring the IPod will erase any music and pictures etc you may have saved. Let us know how you get on.

Sounds like the hard disk inside has failed/ became stuck

Not recommended by Apple, but a wee (well sharp) knock on a hardish surface can sometimes get it going again.

Disclaimer - I'm taking no responsibility if the screen shatters when you do the above!

Don't ask me how I have done it but its playing music, the menu came up, battery was very flat when I first plugged it in and Itunes says it doesn't recognise it? Yet its now playing music, d'oh

Is it an older iPod with a hard disk or an iPod Touch or iPod Nano? The information will be given on the back of the device.

Also, do you use a PC or Mac to synch the iPod?

No it isn't as nano's are half the size of Ipods. I googled argos as I was thinking about buying him a new one for Christmas so I know
