What’s happened to the news drowned out by covid? Where did it go or did nothing else coincidentally happen as the virus snuck across our land? Will we sheepishly give it airtime again after the plague subsides (hopefully)?

It’s all covid or World Cup now. I’ll wait a few more weeks until this stupid football thing is over and catch up with what’s been happening.

Why football escaped the sports section and took over the news is beyond me

I guess in general it either wasn't really news in the first place or didn't get drowned out. Major events got covered - US election, Isreal/Palestine conflict etc. No doubt our politicians have made full use of every opportunity to bury inconvenient stories behind Covid ones but they do that all the time anyway.
