EURO 2020 SF Day 1: We all love a nice semi don’t we.....

Here we gooooooo then! 48 matches down, just 3 to go! I think that’s both sad and exciting at the same time but maybe that’s just me!

So tonight, with tickets STILL available by the way if you have a few hundred of your Great British Pounds going spare, is the first Semi Final at Wembley seeing 4-time World Cup winners Italy playing 2010 World Cup Winners Spain for the right to play the victor of tomorrow’s Semi-Final, England or Denmark, in Sunday’s big finale.

Italy have arguably been the most consistent through the the tournament, impressing right from the first game whilst Spain have gained momentum and improved as the tournament has progressed, winning the last couple of game and scoring 10 goals in the process after opening the tournament with two draws.

Both have the ability to play sublime football on their day but who will prevail tonight?

I’m going for a tight one that will go all the way.. 1-1 at 90 mins, 2-2 at 120 mins then a penalty shootout where I can see ITALY prevailing.

What do you think? Where will the headlines be made tonight?

No 3rd place playoff in this tournament, for the losers it’s all over tonight or tomorrow!

I stand corrected then! England have two matches left and I’m thinking they’ll play Italy in the final because Denmark didn’t look as good as England and Italy have looked like they wanted this from the start

Interestingly the sports betting paper " The Racing Post",gives a fairly high recommended tip on an Italy win in 90 mins....

On that basis alone I hope if Englandshire get to final they get Spain instead.

I don’t know why there’s no 3rd place game as it seems commonplace elsewhere (WC and Copa America etc) - I always think they’re a waste of time as neither side *really* wants to be there, surely?

I’m hoping you’re right on England, and if you are then whoever they play in the Final is going to be tough!

There cannot be a third place play off as Denmark have already booked their flight back home

Apparently around 58,000 tickets sold for tonight’s game which is a decent turnout given travel restrictions. The large majority UK based expats.

I’m interested in how tonight goes, mainly because I think that Spain’s possession based game might make it very hard for Italy. I also think that England stand a better chance against Spain, should we get to the final.

I think that this will go to the wire (what do you mean I said that about the Belgium match?!)

2-2 aet Spain on Penalties

I can’t see past Italy, as I think they’ve been by far the best team. Extra time, penalties and a few key injuries to the winning team would be helpful though!

It’s should be a good atmosphere for the real final…..

Seriously though..quite funny for Mancini to complain about Italian fans not being allowed to come over bearing in mind fans from England were not allowed to go to Rome!

Anyway every half decent tapas bar is going to be closed…
