What’s the context? From perspective of the domestically focussed partner or the breadwinner or sitcom writers?

The whole concept is a bit outdated in this age of PC enlightenment and the need for two incomes to buy a rabbit hutch.

I'd prefer to have enough of my own money to see out my days and be my own housewife, able to spend my time as I desired, helping out at animal shelters, luncheoning or pottering about in the house/garden.

That would be my preference for me.

But... I work and I'll continue to, coz I ain't gonna allow anyone to have financial power over me.... or emotional power either. Foooooook that shit.

I’m definitely highly career focused and love having the finances to do what I like. Until 30 I was a stay at home single mum but used that time to teach myself digital marketing and embarked on my career when my kids reached their teens.

That's true. A Russian American woman has started a campaign for women to be compensated by their governments for making homes and raising children.

In a way yes, in the old days. That's what was expected by society. Hence women are still fighting for equality and equal pay.

No, we aren’t all in favour, some of us have no choice, if you are lucky enough to have the ability to stay at home then that’s wonderful wether you are a man or a woman, I have a few women friends who are the “breadwinners” and their husband/partners do the “housewife” bit, we’ve moved on a bit from the 1940’s

Are you asking for my preference on whether I'd rather go to work or be a homemaker, or are you asking whether my partner would prefer me to be out at work or be a homemaker?

My preference is to have enough cash that I don't need to work and can afford enough domestic help that I also don't need to be a homemaker.

If work was so amazing they wouldn't need to pay me to be there (and that's from someone who enjoys what they do).

So OP, would you rather have a job or be a homemaker? What is your partner's preference for your lifestyle?

I am undecided. I think it will be my partner's choice as it's her life.

I think a bit of both as I do work from home and I like it. I'm single so I look cool and clean etc.

What would make me sexually more appealing? Hmm.. I don't know. It depends to who

Wow that's really inspirational!! I've recently been freaking out about career choices etc and feeling too old to start a new path (my friends are all highly successful in their fields already) so it's great to hear about other people who have gotten their start a little bit later on

The women who work in the home/bring up kids ARE working women. As are the men who do this role.

I don't really think of it as a choice between career or housewife. I do it all. As do lots of men I know. Roles shift about these days with less stigma. Although there is still a gender wage gap as well as a work/contribution recognition issue.

I'm a single mama, 100% financially responsible for my kids. Im self employed, am a director of a company and do all the housewifery for me n my kids.

My ex shares time with our kids. I've heard other women tell me I'm lucky.. I think it's just how it should be.

I'd love a housewife though!

It's not easy to get it but I strive for a work/family/life balance. I take my time for myself and follow my individual dreams as well as the time for my children and their needs and our family stuff.

After spending years with an unequal balance of contribution in a relationship, I choose to have my life too. I'm a happier person that way. It's a juggle.

I'm not the kind of woman to spend all day at home cleaning and ironing.

I'm teaching my kids life skills so they can contribute and be independent.

Yes i thought i had stumbled into a time warp. I was a stay at home mother for a while because my children had health issues that made it very difficult to work. But i was single and fortunately had familial financial support.

I suppose that’s ok if you earn more than your house worker charges, otherwise it’s a false economy.

Sexy is sexy right? Nothing to do with occupation unless a specific uniform is a turn-on!
