With work hours not being the ole 9-5 for many people, what time do you think acceptable to cut the grass of a morning.

People work all kinds of shifts nowadays.

I should still be snoozing, however I was woken just after 8 by someone who sees no wrong in bringing out the mower and hedge trimmer at such time.

I won't even vacuum before 10am or after 9pm just in case my neighbours are still asleep or settling down.

I think 8am is the acceptable time as workmen don't usually start before then.

I think there may be a by law about it.

I'd say 8am is early for mowing but I'd also say if you choose to work shifts then your sleeping in the daytime is your thing to sort out. Earplugs, a polite request to neighbours, blackout blinds etc.

Perhaps they also work shifts and have limited hours to do the household chores but just at opposite ends of the day to you?

That's so wrong. There is right n wrong times for things like that. I feel the same as u I always think about others. People hav no manners anymore just do wat they want. I understand they may hav work themselves but think of ur surrounding nwighbours. My neighbour a few months back was doin work in their kitchen drilling til after 10 at nite.

I live in flats with very strict rules on noisy work and it's permitted here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm, Sundays and bank holidays not permitted at all.

Sadly it didn't stop the railway sending two guys out with chainsaws at 3am last Saturday night to cut back overhanging trees from the line that's about 200 yards from my window, but you can't have everything.

There are noise laws/rules that can be read on your local council website.

Now I haven't read anything legal for years on this but i'd stake a low bet that it's something like ......... not before 7 a.m. and not after 11. a.m. A bit like the sounding car horns rule ......

Sorry PP but i'm on your neighbours side. How can anyone know what time everyone else gets up ?

Most are up for work. Kids are up for school and i'm fucked if we can work out who is on shifts......

Then from your point of view I sat down to watch the t.v. on Friday night and the bloke over the back was 'hoovering' his lawn and I was fucking livid..... it was only 8.30 but I thought NOOOOOOOO if im sitting to chill after a long day DONT hoover your lawn !!!!

They had a bbq for the footy on Sat so ...... guess he was hoovering the lawn after a days work himself.

Well in most areas quiet time is between 23.00 - 07.00. Personally I wouldn’t make a noise on a week day before 08.00 and before 09.00 on a weekend. Grinds my piss when the bin men tip up at 07.00

I think it is lovely that people actually still consider others - I had given up hope when somebody started a really horrible acrid bonfire at at 9 pm (not noise but still irritating) and as far as noise is concerned, I got the impression people could just do as they please.

Personally, I would not make any unnecessary noise before 8 am weekdays and 10 am at weekends. And I d stop making noise after 9 pm to avoid disturbing sleeping children and anybody settling in for the evening.

I'm telling myself they work nights and have just got home so doing it before they get their head down. I'm likely wrong but trying to make it less pissy-offy

I’m not allowed to call UK customers after 9pm, so for me all noisy stuff hoovering etc..should never be done that late.

I think 9am is the earliest but I work weird hours I finish at 2am, so not normally awake till 10.30 at the earliest.

I'd not do or welcome anything like that before 9am. I'd do noisy stuff when neighbours aren't around, so it keeps things sweet.

Doing things to me letter, eg at 8.01, is still acceptance that it's known that it's inconvenient to others and isn't the ideal approach.

Come to think of it ..... when someone has builders in the noise starts when their working day does which is about 8 a.m. so ... I see no harm. sos

I have lovely neighbours next door but I want to lay the poor old bugger out flat when he whistles cheerily in the garden....... or when they are taking breakfast or tea in the sunshine and I hear their cups clinking ...... dunno why it gets to me ... Guess I just don't want to be part of their goings on.

Working on council contracts with noisy machinery we were told that in residential areas we couldn't start the machines before 7:30.

We always tried to get around the industrial areas first leaving the residential areas until as late as possible.

I'd say 8am is a bit of a piss take for Geoff at number 78 to do his lawn though
