Crumpet Castle

Every few weeks a few of my old colleagues and I meet up for a meal.

I didn't mind the first few times but now I find myself saying ........ fucking hell , why do YOU always have a dessert ? (not me )

One of them always has a dessert. No one else does..... She also gets a couple of drinks... more like .....water on the table , coffee after, coffee before, a liccle glass of wine etc....

I've started resenting splitting.....

Am I right or am I tight ?

Why don’t you do the same? You’re all there to enjoy company AND the meal, yes? I wouldn’t begrudge her.

I mean, unless she starts ordering things like lobster and champagne for herself. I think it should be fine, maybe order a starter or something extra yourself too.. so it’s more fair and balanced if you know it’s always gonna be that way.

I'd resent it after the first few times. But if you accept it the first few times she probably assumes nobody minds. I have the perfect passive aggressive solution. Just eat and drink whatever proportion of her meal you're paying for right off her plate

Haha. You’d hate me and a friend of mine, we take it in turns paying. One time it could be a nice restaurant, next time a pub, big price difference. No matter though as the main thing is the company and a good catch up

I always have less than everyone else, so I feel your pain. I tend the avoid these arrangements and usually say “I’ll put XX in which should cover mine and part of the tip”. Then if they want to split the rest of the bill then they can. They usually do and use the tip I put to pay, which also irks me as that was for the waiter.

I felt sad once. A friend of ours was on hard times, a group of us were going for a meal and really wanted her to come. I asked her discreetly if she'd agree to come and when it came to paying we'd just split it between the rest of us or I'd just put hers on my card.

I understand why she refused but she's the first to pay for coffee or offer to make up someone else's shortfall.

It wouldn’t bother me. I always split.

I also don’t go out for meals and think ‘oh I won’t have dessert/wine’ just because the others aren’t. If I’m out for a meal then il order whatever I want regardless of what others have. It all swings in roundabouts though as there have been times where I’m driving so don’t drink and others have.

If she’s a friend then leave it but if it bothers you then just pay your share.

Say split main order food and bottle of wine between you all fairly then after that whatever is ordered is extra ad they pay for it on their own , not fair otherwise, or say your not hungry and order starters and pay for that, just suggestion. Feels and sounds like that woman is taking a nice gesture too far x

When i go out with my work colleagues they are all blokes and live locally.. So they hit the booze immediately... I stay most of the night, but have a 1-2 hour drive to get home, so drink soda water.. So yeah, i understand the pain of splitting a bill

I do know that. However it fucking rankles with me ...... I guess because I couldn't do it time in and time out to people.

Also ...... I never moan about splitting as a rule but this is a regular thing and she always comes off best in the getting stakes.

I wasn't there when the agreement to 'split' four ways was decided and for some stupid reason don't feel that I should rock the boat......

So I shall forever pay for her drinks n puds.....

Yeah but at nando's you have to pay when you order, so if they order individually they have to pay individually or if the friend adds extra later on in the meal she'll have to pay for them separately when she orders. So no one needs to have that no you had more so you need to pay more awkward conversation

When I dine out with friends we sometimes split or someone will say ‘this is our treat tonight’ and they get the bill.

I do know that. However it fucking rankles with me ...... I guess because I couldn't do it time in and time out to people.

Also ...... I never moan about splitting as a rule but this is a regular thing and she always comes off best in the getting stakes.

I wasn't there when the agreement to 'split' four ways was decided and for some stupid reason don't feel that I should rock the boat......

So I shall forever pay for her drinks n puds.....

Ah, didn’t realise you weren’t party to the agreeing to split. That does put a different light on it. Unfortunately now that you’ve gone along with it , you’re stuck with it.

A good compromise is to split the mains and pay for your own drinks and any starter or pud, especially if they are not good friends just colleagues.

I, the male, never split. I know what I've had and pay for what I've eaten. I really don't see why I should pay for those who know damn well they're not paying their fair share.
