Not seen a post on this yet so I thought I'd make one as I'd love to see peoples comments.

2 female runners are out of the Olympics due to "naturally high test levels". My understanding is that they both have differences in sex development that means their test levels are higher than others.

I'm kinda torn on the subject because I don't have info on their level of DSD. I partly feel like its a god given right. If you're tall you play basketball. They don't put a height limit. But at the same time I have to wonder where we draw the line with DSD between man and woman.

But if you grow up a man with male muscles and male proportions and male bone density, then use science and drugs to change into a woman, you're ok to compete against other woman. But if nature gives you slightly higher test, thats a no.

There has also a few other controversies. One female runner was disqualified for cannabis use. I agree with this. I think the rule might be a little outdated, but its the rule. If you want to be a professional athlete, act like one and follow the rules.

The other is swimming caps designed for Afro-carribean hair being banned. I cant see a reason behind this. Some people are saying racism, I think its more likely old antiquated views on how they want competitors to look. A uniform issue. But I still dont agree with it.

The Olympic commission is gonna have a lot to answer

Perhaps this is evidence that the trans athlete mentioned is free to compete since her tests are within strict controls.

At the same point though, as you say; there’s no limit on height or physical size for competition and natural biology is simply a benefit for competition which we cannot rule out, so it should be allowed.

This kind of focus on ‘level playing fields’ is ridiculous and contradictory to actual sporting competition.

This isn’t cheating, this isn’t doping, this is their natural physical makeup. They’re essentially being banned because they will be ‘too good’ and others will find it harder to win

I think if the levels of hormones (I presume testosterone??) are slightly higher for those athletes then they should still be able to compete if there’s no use of doping as that’s how they naturally are (some women might have naturally high testosterone levels). It’s Only fair and they have to accept that .. unless of course they suspect previous doping but I’m ignorant on the subject so I don’t want to say things that I have no idea about

Regarding the athlete who smocked cannabis, I mean I think they were super strict as cannabis is legal in the US in certain states. But also I think to myself okay it doesn’t enhances, if it is illegal tho to take any kind of drug then she was a bit stupid to do it before such a major competition…

From my understanding they know its not suspicions because they are allowing them to compete in the 100-200m races, just not the 400-1600m.

What kinda backwards thinking is that?

Either your out, or your in, right?

Seems to be some serious inconsistencies with the Olympic commission

People forget here that the Olympics isn't America. Its the whole world and isn't legal in most of it.

And whether its a performance enhancer or not is under question. If it calms your nerves, that's a performance enhancer. Beta blockers are banned for that exact reason.

And if caffeine is closely monitored in the Olympics, and was once banned, can we be surprised that cannabis is?

The problem is rule change they dropped the limt from 7-1 to 5-1 for those events can’t see why they would do that

But I wilol say with my knowledge and who I know and such anyone pushing the upper 6-7 range is ither

A freek off nature or microdosing

Not meny off the top 1% are pushing that 6-7 range from my understanding

Yeah makes total sense.. I mean they have their rules so I think she just fell on her swords and she should have known better plus they probably used her to show that they aren’t gonna look over anything like that. Whether small or big

I think the swimming cap is a little more than antiquated views on how they want competitors to look. They made a comment along the lines of 'no one has wanted or needed this in the past'. This is pretty much the definition of institutional racism - that is it isn't individual people who are racists but rules, habits and institutionalised behavior that have an adversely negative impact on POC. Sure no one has wanted such a cap in the past but then the past isn't exactly a great standard for how we should behave. The issue is people want these caps now.

I really don't understand why any sports committee feels it has the right to impose regulations on a person's dress. Unless the clothing enhance performance unfairly or hinders judging (for those sports where body form/movement are the judged criteria) it shouldn't make any difference. Its funny just how many people believe they have the right to impose their preferences on others and then justify that right using external reasons rather than being honest and saying "its what I think you should do"

Picking up on the other point about the swim caps, I wish the IOC would reconsider. I'm an advocate of all kids learning to swim and to feel and be safe around water. More diversity in swimming at all levels needs to be encouraged. I saw the article but couldn't particularly see a reason given.
