Now over the past 2 years I’ve lost more than 25kgs/60lbs

This has been mostly through diet change, running (10km 3-4 times a week now) and karate. However I have plateaued again and am losing a lot of motivation. Then I had a thought, instead of fixating on weight loss maybe I should turn my attention to building more muscle and toning up. Which brings me to lifting weights.

However, I haven’t got a clue where to start. I don’t have a schedule regular enough to book. a PT so need this to start by myself.

Please guys and gals, any advice is gratefully received

Congrats dude, I’m in a similar boat. I found Fitness Subreddit’s wiki on Reddit (can’t link it here!) to be an excellent place to start when I had no clue a few years ago. Good luck!

Well I’ve got plenty of videos of me getting hot a sweaty in the gym , and it definitely helps with certain positions and role plays in the bedroom

Manchester (she/her)

Some gyms will offer a guide/induction and/or will have staff to help you show form.

Probably full body workouts are the best places to start

Well done on your weight loss! Put some old trousers on that are way too big.. you'll soon feel motivated again..

I'd educate yourself, as much as you can. Recommend maybe bodyweight workout - Tom Merrick on youtube. B/w workouts largely free / don't need much kit. so cheap to start.

Ditto 'Nerd Fitness' have good starting points / articles about getting fit pretty cheaply.

Don't know if you have any access to weights - so can't really comment on your current circumstances.

You talk about 'lifting weights' there's lots of divisions of lifting from Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting - both of which need a lot of kit and definitely a coach to get you started.

There's a strong man guy already replied.

and the last one is Bodybuilding. Again you can try T-Nation website for inspiration / starting or Men's Health.

I'd not lash out on kit until you've understood what you want from your lifting.

Best of Luck OP.

Thanks for the info. I’ve got some basic kit that I’ve had lying around for years. Bad form is what I’m really worried about, particularly as I broke my left shoulder a while back and don’t want to screw that up.
