"A treadmill or the road? Which do you prefer? " Both has it's benefits to be honest as adequate oxygen can help increase flow in your body likewise cooling you off outside. A treadmill has specified focus on what you want. I will say both..

"Always hated the treadmill but as you get older the knees can't take the hard shocks from the road so treadmill takes over." What about trail running? I usually find that easier on the knees. Mike

"I prefer trail running, immersed in nature, found some beautiful coastal paths to run and a trail that follows a river through woodlands and fields that goes on for miles, never knew it was there, once you start exploring theres loads of hidden gems on your doorstep, well there has been on mine anyway. " There’s some great trails in the Peak District between Sheffield and Stilockport. One I do regularly, Edale up onto kinder scout at 600m, the last 20 mins you climb a waterfall , along the ridge, fantastic views then descend down Jacob’s ladder and back to Edale about an 8 mile loop.

"A treadmill or the road? Which do you prefer? " I've always preferred the treadmill because I'm terrible at keeping my own pace.

Mike" Trail running was fun but we live in a city these days. I was an athlete and running 120 plus miles a week I training takes out of you hence knackered knees. I was lucky to avoid serious injuries in my younger days and these days fitness is for fun and keeping the weight off not as a competitive sport. Do what makes you happy and healthy.
