In the apocalypse?

You can pick!

1 'Primary' This can be anything traditionally that would fit that category.

2, 'Sidearm'/Backup - This can be any backup/support weapon

3, Melee option.

Nb; you don't have to take ANY firearms!

Since we dont have access to firearms or places that store them like they do in American films then im going for things currently at my disposal (in my bedroom)...and assuming its a ZApocalypse

1. Wooden curtain pole into which can whittle a pointy stabby end with my nail scissors and use like Morgan (i was a majorette so have all the Bunty Carmichael twirling skills)

2. Hairspray...its Insette so just spraying the drooling mofos until theyre solid and cant chase me

3. Spikey hairbrush that used to make my youngest scream like she was being tortured

My answer is purely based on watching the ‘Walking Dead’ . To start with I would rip the arms of my shirt, then grow some facial hair. Once I have achieved the apocalyptic look then I will have to get my hands on a decent cross bow and a knife…….. not a kitchen knife, a proper ‘Mick Dundee’ knife.

Also , I shall add a pair of cowboy boots to the list……. Because they are the best footwear to have to put run mutated zombies , zombie dogs…… or any other mutated thingy that the apocalypse throws at you!

Great post OP!!!

Probably says a lot about my mindset that I didn't even think about firearms until we got to "melee weapons". Hmm.

What sort of apocalypse are we talking? What's the cause? What level of societal collapse are we looking at? Threads, Mad Max, something with zombies?

Rules! :

1, This is a STANDARD 90's Zombie apocalypse. we're talking 90% slow walkers a la 'The Walking Dead' however there is 'variants' which are mutated grays, not sure how they came into being, but everywhere the regular undead suffer, speed, sight, hearing.. they excel!

2, For ease of access, I'll say you can pick your home country or default to yankland if only to have access to the weaponry you may want!

3, This is EARLY days. first week. long enough to know you're on your own. but not enough that society has TOTALLY broken down.

I'd be interested to hear where you guys will be restocking your ammo...

My primary weapon would be a mattock handle. If I have time I'd cut the blades off the metal head and keep the metal collar on it for extra heft and durability. Doesn't need sharpening and won't get stuck in bone.

Secondary weapon would be a crow bar. Deadly and useful.

I'm all about the blunt force trauma and low loads.

Okay then. We’re talking traditional shambling zombies, right? The ones that can only be killed by destroying the brain, yes? In that case…

Primary weapon: Fifteenth-century poll arm. Axe head on one edge, puncturing spike on the other, spikes on each end too. Reach, power, penetration, and I’m already trained in using one. Google “Royal Armouries pollaxe VII.1542” to see what I have in mind.

Secondary weapon: Fifteenth-century rondel dagger. If they get inside the reach of my poll arm, it’s easy to yank it out and drive the point into the skull. Again, I already know how to use one.

Melee option: Full set of fifteenth-century gothic armour. Dickheads can climb all over me, but they can’t bite me. While they’re failing to even scratch several millimetres of steel, I can get on with the important business of stabbing them.

I’ve gone entirely for weapons that don’t jam and never run out of ammunition. I wouldn’t know how to safely handle a firearm anyway, and I can’t shoot a bow for shit either.

Medieval armour weighs less than all the gear a modern soldier carries into battle, and even better, the weight is evenly distributed all over the body. There are plenty of videos of guys sprinting, rolling, doing cartwheels et cetera in full armour. Sure, it can be tiring to wear if you’re not used to it, but don’t believe all the rubbish about falling over and not being able to get up. Pure Victorian bullshit about knights needing to be winched onto their horse and so forth.

Modern armour doesn't offer the full body-and-face protection of medieval armour. They're designed with entirely different philosphies in mind. Medieval armour is intended to stop you getting injured at all, but is useless against firearms. Modern armour increases your survivability versus firearms, but it does that by protecting your internal organs without sacrificing too much mobility. Modern armour will keep your guts in until you get to a hospital, but it won't prevent an infectious bite to an extremity.
