Anyone else have this problem with their children and their chargers!?

I can have a charger for months and months and it’s fine, the moment my daughter gets her sticky little hands on it for her iPad it dies a death within a few days.

I’ve told her not to use the iPad whilst it’s charging and of course she claims that she doesn’t.

I bought a charger for her the other day that was £22, made of metal, but that’s dead this morning too!

Anyone know what’s going on and what is the best charger for an iPad, the memory is 1TB and it’s cellular if that makes a difference?

I feel your pain.

I can remember when my daughter was younger, I would have 2 or 3 perfect chargers/leads as would my ex-wife. My daughter would have her own couple of chargers/leads too. After a couple of months me and the ex would be sharing one charger and our daughter would be needing a new charger after going through every other charger in the house.

The answer….sell the kids, harsh but effective.

Omg I too have one of those kids!

The number of chargers he has broken is unreal. He now has an iPhone charger which is a stand and you just place the phone on it.... surely he can't break that

His Xbox controller has had to be replaced because he forced the wrong lead in to it and reshaped the slot!

He fused our BMW by forcing a USB into a cigarette lighter...

This boy wants to be an engineer...

I don't know if this may help(I'm an electrician), but if you know of anyone that's handy, get a one of those socket that has a USB charger built into it. You can them at Screwfix for about £10 and they come in like £11 with 3.1amp charger. I've had mine for over 3 years now. But mine is the older version of 2 amps. Google 'screwfix usb sockets'. It only takes about 5 to 20 mins to fit.

Have this problem too. I make them use a battery pack to charge them instead of being plugged into the wall. This has reduced the number of cables that have died a death.

It’s not the adaptor that dies, it’s the lead that gets bent back and forth.

It's not just kids, I had been going through USBC cables like mad. Thought it was my huge hands, but I think it was due to me pulling the cable out by tugging on the cable rather than pulling at the connector. Think this has been messing them up.

I just love these kind of parents and children. Well I'm an uncle. Kids are great aren't they. I'm in a hotel now and last week it run over by children and babies making so much noise till 10 at night. Sometimes till midnight. It was like a school playground. After 90% of them left one mother told me she can sleep now, then a few days later more families came with an army of children. Well I love the sound of children. It livens the place up.

Nerd alert coming….

Problem with an iPad/iPhone is that wireless chargers can’t fast charge… it only charges at 7.5w

I have a plug in the wall fast charger that does it at 20w

Afaik using stuff while charging is fine?!

It just slows down the rate at which its charged

If you are using a charrger that doesnt have a high enough Ampere it may not charge though

Use the wireless charger and top it up through the day

The battery will last longer than if you just let it discharge/get very low then recharge it at night like lots of people do

It’s worth checking that the charging port on the device is clean…fluff can clog it up giving you and unreliable reading.

With the device powered off, blow out the port with a can of compressed air (DON’T shake the can first) or tip it upside down and use a toothpick to gently pry out any debris.

NEVER use any metal in the charge port or you will damage your phone.

Also worth investing in the 3-5meter cables for the kids so they don’t over-stretch/put strain on the cable.

It was fine after a reboot. Shat myself at the time though

But either the CPU or MOBO died properly about 4 months later as it would only post about 1/20 times. Checked HWMonitor when it did post and half the cores on the CPU where missing

Derby

Its her using it while it's being charged, nothing to do with the way it is charging or charging speeds rather than her treatment of it while she is using it.

While it is in use there will likely be pressure applied to the plug body which will be damaging not only the plug on the lead but also the socket in the ipad which will eventually need replacing at a big cost compared to a lead.

Also yanking it out by the cable rather than by the plug body itself as the cables aren't designed to have any tensile stress (pulling) applied to them at all.

Simply ban her from using it while it is being charged and look for leads that have reinforcing at the joint between the plug body and the lead at the Ipad end.

Thank you for the Mcdonalds offer, but I'm in Greece now, and you do realise you're down Reading and I'm up Manchester. But honestly just changing a socket over is so simple, just turn off your mains electrical board(there's a mains switch which will turn everything off, a safe way to know if the socket is dead or live is connect something like a hair dryer, notice that it works, then go down stairs and turn off the mains cupboard and notice that it now doesn't work). So just unscrew the old socket, depending on how old your house is(red or brown is live, connect that to 'L', black or blue is neutral, connect that to 'N' and green/yellow is earth, connect that to 'E'). Anyway I don't like McDonald's or fast food. Also YouTube it. But honestly changing a socket over is one of the simplest job. Good luck.
