Just watched a documentary on the Sex Pistols and now the gig they did at Brixton academy in 2007...I was under the age of 10 when Punk music was peaking in Britain...my older Sister was in her teens, appreciated and felt that peak...I had to wait a few more years to appreciate this musical era...Never got to see the Sex Pistols live but had the pleasure of seeing John Lydon and his band PIL at Rebellion Punk Festival....Amazing!! So who else on Fab loves this era of music?

Wayhay...I'm sat here buzzing...my adrenaline is pumping I know Sid Vicious wasn't in the original line up but my goodness he fitted in...Watched a documentary about Sid a while back...such a quite lad not what he portrayed on stage ..brought up by his whizz addicted Mum..then Nancy Spungeon introduced him to Heroin...He got clean and his Mum gave him the strong Heroin that killed him...R.I.P...Sid..

There and to the left a bit

Was a touch too young first time round (I was 12 in 77) but caught the back end of it when I hit my teens - so it's formed part of my musical heritage.

Saw The Pistols at Finsbury Park on their Filthy Luchre tour in 96 - the day after seeing Madness in the same park, and more to the point the day after England beat Spain in Euro 96 - the Pistols actually surprised me with how tight they were live.

For me though they were more of a figurehead of punk and there were plenty better than them including The Clash, Siouxsie, The Buzzcocks and The Damned

Pretty sure they’re a lot tighter and better musicians in 2007 onwards than they ever were in the 70s, particularly glen matlock who didn’t look like he could play a note originally.

(mr) I imagine to truly appreciate Punk ‘one’ had to not only be around at the time, but also experience the angst and rebellion that they portrayed. Having been born a decade too late I have to confess I don’t really ‘get’ it. Which I find odd (personally, within myself) as I otherwise love ‘violent’ loud aggressive music with attitude. A lot of which has some root in Punk. Live heavy metal (e.g Slipknot) and all time fav is Product (especially Jilted and onwards), which is very heavily punk influenced. As for the ‘grandfathers’ them selves. They do very little for me. I prefer the Ramones as they wring a bit more melody from their three chords and could almost sing a tune.

I remember that time well. I remember watching the Bill Grundy interview that set things alight.

I remember the fights between punks and rockers and mods.

I kinda drifted through the firestorm going on around me. I was into Elvis, Prince, Dr Feelgood and Glam Rock later New Romantics in 75 to 79.

I was indifferent to it, liked a few songs and bands but I didn't identify with the angst. As I had my own going on at the time.

They have their place in history, however they were manufactured by Malcolm McClaren. They burnt out very fast and Johnny Rotten is a bit of a prick sadly. Influenced a lot of people who attended the Lesser Free Trade Hall Gig, though the number of people who say they attended some are lying. There's a book that looks into that. Don't like or dislike them, interesting group to make a documentary on though, plus Bill Grundy got himself sacked after that interview.

No the abuse came to my ears when our oldest daughter now 32 hit 14 and wanted to go to gigs by HIM so like a mug I took her all over Europe and The UK and I was so much older and taller than the crowd we came up with a cover story that I was her body guard!!!!!

Live music punk or otherwise is so much better.

It was a great period to be growing up, at school you had mods, punks, soul boys, skin heads, heavy metal etc all with unique clothing and fights and scraps in and out of school between gangs.

Now it seems like virtually every school kid likes similar music to each other and dresses the same

"Just watched a documentary on the Sex Pistols and now the gig they did at Brixton academy in 2007...I was under the age of 10 when Punk music was peaking in Britain...my older Sister was in her teens, appreciated and felt that peak...I had to wait a few more years to appreciate this musical era...Never got to see the Sex Pistols live but had the pleasure of seeing John Lydon and his band PIL at Rebellion Punk Festival....Amazing!! So who else on Fab loves this era of music?

It was a great period to be growing up, at school you had mods, punks, soul boys, skin heads, heavy metal etc all with unique clothing and fights and scraps in and out of school between gangs.

Now it seems like virtually every school kid likes similar music to each other and dresses the same"

Funking rap music, that shite stormzy, dear lord how can you call that music

"Loved it all, but then I still love plenty of modern punk, rock and metal.

Those who say modern music is dull or not as good are looking in the wrong places. It's just not mainstream.

Idles, Fontaine’s DC, there’s loads of good bands out there, I just need them to start touring again!

Saw Idles at Shambala year before last. I knew I was old cos I couldn’t get close to the stage they were so fucking loud my ears were bleeding "

Thankfully, I’m a bit deaf now anyway!

"Siouxsie and the Banshees are my favourite group of all time

I have a live album from them somewhere and the gig starts with "Israel" and that is absolutely awesome

It’s called Nocturne they were at the Royal Albert Hall, I went!

I have some of the artwork from the cover tattooed on my arm.

Me toooooooooo !!!! I was a teeny bit too young to go alone but I put loads of black makeup on and went with an older group of friends. A major influence on me and saw them a few times. Went to see The Creatures as well.

V x

That’s funny!

I went on my own, I lived in a small town outside London and no one was into my kind of music. I saw the Banshees about 15 times, never saw the creatures sadly. "

I saw The Banshees four times and The Creatures over ten times.

I actually got to meet Siouxsie and Budgie in 2002 and they were absolutely gorgeous. Siouxsie even squeezed my arm on leaving and said how great it was to meet me.

Oh and btw, Nocturne is fab!

Nice. I love Idles.

I have to wear earplugs at gigs now otherwise it physically hurts

Though, I'm still to find a pair I'm totally happy with.

Never too loud, but alot of my friends in bands suffer really bad tinnitus and now wear ear plugs to stop further damage and I'm not going through that shit.

If ear plugs are good for band members, they are good for me.
