A Lady at the Supermarket Till

Chelmsford

The lady in front of you in the queue at the till tells the shop staff that she can't afford all of her shopping and has to put a couple of items back. Do you...

A. Find another till where there is less fuss and get through quicker

B. Sigh loudly expressing your displeasure

C. Offer to pay for the ladies shopping that she cannot afford...

One of these happened recently

If I have the money and it's essential items I would offer to pay for them

If this is another post where you announce a good deed to the world, just a note to say you can do good things just for the sake of being a good person.

If it's a genuine question, C

I would pay for any essential items for anyone who couldn't afford them, regardless of gender or age.

up the road

Depends how much shes short (or he), a couple of pounds overspend is something we can all do without realising we have gone over whatever money we have available so i would and have in the past discreetly offered to pay the outstanding

but if her shop is £50and shes only got £20 then its would be A as there was possibly a motive behind it.

I have given people a pound or two towards shopping before.

I would probably wait patiently while the cashier takes items off if my offer was rejected.

There's one old lady I would tut at who was a dick to me at a checkout though, I would give her a stare and one eyebrow raise if she held up the queue.

I've been the one unable to pay too. I've also said to the person on the till that I've only got x amount can they stop when they get to that.

That's exactly why I chose to pay when I can! Kindness rolls around.

It sure does.

I would be hugely embarrassed if someone offered to pay though and probably refuse.

"Do you...

A. Find another till where there is less fuss and get through quicker

B. Sigh loudly expressing your displeasure

C. Offer to pay for the ladies shopping that she cannot afford...

One of these happened recently

"

E. Quickly assess how much she is short by. Quietly grab the amount from my wallet. Reach down to the floor and say "Oh, you dropped a note from your purse" and hand it to her.

The rest of the queue are none the wiser, and the poor lady is spared any embarrassment with the whole queue at least. If she pauses to look at me quizzically with that "I know I didn't drop that there" look on her face, I'll smile and wink then look away to fuss over my items on the belt.

If Essex Tom is behind you in the queue at the checkouts do you:

A. Turn round and say ‘I don’t make this stuff up, it’s all over the news!’

B. Go really slow just to annoy him.

C. Ask him if he seen any sharks on the way to Waitrose.

Depends on the amount, but the odd couple of pound probably C. In the main, it would have to be A for me. How do i know this person doesn't do it deliberately in the hope that someone offers to pay the so called excess?

Depends on a number of things...if they are picking up essentials then il offer to pay if it’s £5-£10 over. If it’s essentials but luxury brands then I probably wouldn’t and depending on how big my shop was depends if I would move.

Paid for a ladies shopping in the US that she didn’t have enough food stamps for. Made up of mainly baby food and cereal. If were steak and wine etc that would have been a different story

If the honest answer is required then I think we've done all 3 at some point
