Inconscious consumerism preys on the uncentered. Once we lose touch with our center, we don’t know who we are anymore, and marketers fill the void by telling us who we ought to be.

Inconscious ought to start with u…. But not allowed to post it

I've always thought this about religion to be honest. I hear ardent atheists saying there is no need for religion as we have laws to tell you how to live your life and even though I'm not religious, I can see why it exists because it can give uncentered people a purpose where there wasn't before.

Marketers don't do the same thing of course but I think the same principle applies

Perhaps people would know their 'centre' if they weren't spun dried by religion.

Religion is no more than an early form of authoritarian control.

I quite agree, with that.

For me the quote is a reminder that the more we seek externally look for material happiness we seem to find less and want more to fill the void. Simplicity is key

Only two kinds of people can attain self-knowledge: those who are not encumbered at all with learning, that is to say, whose minds are not over-crowded with thoughts borrowed from others; and those who, after studying all the scriptures and sciences, have come to realise that they know nothing.
