Where I go to we focus on the 3 main lifts (squat Mondays, bench Tuesdays, deadlifts Fridays). The session starts out with sets of those then accessory work to help improve our performance. Then Wednesday and Thursday are more core/cardio based and Saturdays are a bit of a mix to get a blow on for the weekend

Looking forward to Monday as its one rep max time on squats!

I have a full two week routine with weights and conditioning (treadmill/swimming).

3 days on weights in the week. With a lower and upper body split. Alternating between the two.

Once the two weeks are up I start again and see if I should increase the weights or stay where I’m at and focus on the technique.

The weights at the moment are pushed and pulled on the basis of increasing strength.

After three months, I’m going to focus the weights on elasticity (snappy movements).

My goal is to improve my swimming with not just endurance but strength.

So that’s what I do at the gym currently. I’m happy to share my program.

Walk around a lot purposefully searching for the inspiration , realise its going to take a huge effort to turn back time to when I had a waistline, retire to the steam room, shower and a few pints whilst reminiscing about when I once could do chin ups.

I find doing 4 sets of weight/ resistance training a week works for me, split in upper then lower body.

Does anybody else find that they need a break in between the days - for example if I do Monday and Tuesday, I need Wednesday off from weights before starting again Thursday.

Am I a whimp?

Swim mostly. Got some weights at home. Can live without the vest wearing posers getting territorial over the free weights.

Nope, not at all. Rest days are really important for muscle recovery and if it helps you against fatigue, then you should keep taking those rest days

My work out can varie in time depending on how lazy I am being bween sets and stuff 2 hour to 3 hour

Start with

standing overhead press behind the neck 3 sets off 8-10 reps going up 2.5kg per set

Movie on to 3 sets off 8-10 reps neutral grip L shape pull ups with 20kg on my waist

Then 3 sets off wide grip pull ups 8-10 reps at 15kg

Then 4 sets off 8 reps barbell rows

Then 3 sets off 8-10 reps bench

At the hafe way mark deep in the 3rd round so little 5 minute brake

Side bends at 60kg 3 sets 10 reps 30kg a side

Then sit ups can varue between drops sets form 30kg dropping 5kg ever 50 reps

Or can bang out 300 on the spot form like 20kg

Have done 300 form 30kg but only hit it ones still dose not count till I repeat all attempts at it I sins I have failed at like 210-220

Then leg rases 3 sets off 8 holding for 30 seconds bween reps feet only touching the ground after 8 reps are done

Next it’s dips for 3 sets off 8

Then to finsh out I alt bween deads and squats

For 3 sets off 10 ie if I squatted the work out before it’s deads if a dead the last work out it’s squats

3 weights sessions a week - upper body, lower body and then full body and then one cardio a week. I also have a spinning bike and weights at home so use them on non gym days also. I am thinking about adding a class in too for something different but I'm not a fan of group classes really.

Kx

Depends, mainly calisthenics & weights + military assault (military inspired weighted outdoor stuff)

i do peloton (spin) at home in the morning with a group of riding friends and do alot of dh/trail mountain biking so dont do cardio in the gym.

I train 4 or 5 times a week, split training my body parts or push and pull you can call it.

Day 1 - Chest & Shoulders

Day 2 - Back & abs

Day 3 - Legs

Day 4 - Arms, biceps, triceps, forearms, abs

Cardio is done most days and pyramid sets

I had a chart I had to follow.

It told me how much of each machine I had to do.

Now I can't use any of them so I swim in the pool instead

My version of going to the gym is when I walk to the door to get my dominos pizza so I'd say I take about 30 seconds of steps and then I squat onto the sofa

I spend a good 30 minutes asking people if they’re using this machine, when they say ‘No.’ i reply ‘Didn’t think so!’ and walk off leaving them looking perplexed.

Oooh I bet that gives motivation

I lean on the machine someone has just started using, (whilst eating my smarties of course) asking "are you done yet?" Over and over.

I do a couple of classes a week. Then when I go in the gym I do 20-30 mins treadmill and 20 mins on x trainer or rowing machine.

I then go and pretend I know what I'm doing with the weights but have no idea and feel like an idiot. Really need to book in with a pt to show me what to do properly as I much prefer weights to cardio

Mix it up from week to week, but always skip for 10 minutes then onto various cardio for 45 mins then 45 mins of weights. Not too heavy these days. Then weekends I spar at my local boys club with a couple of heavyweights ones 23.... That's painful .... The other is same age as me and we have a laugh. Been training for a white collar event that's been postponed for the past 2 years
