"The first rider across the line usually wins a race." Not in a grand tour, the first rider screws the line just wins on that day, and then you factor on all the other sun sections like the mountain points, sprints and even best young rider, it’s got something for everyone

"Can't wait... . I love it" Good to hear! As for who's going to win, my heart says G but his bad luck follows him everywhere, hopefully he hides from it like 2018 and puts in another "It's Alpe Duez man" performance. Praying Cav gets a stage or two too

"The first rider across the line usually wins a race." A rider could win Le Tour without winning a stage, it’s the collective time over 3 weeks of racing.

"It's almost upon us again, time for the annual TDF thread. Who's going to win?" The answer is a Slovenian… just not decided which yet!! The weird thing about this year is that there are 3 teams with GC contenders… and all the other teams are set up for breakaways… Basically it’s going to end up being how many people are ineos going to try and throw to get “a Slovenian” to crack

As for the Olympic road race… either climber who can sprint.. like a alaphilippe… or a sprinter who can climb Like a Peter Sagan…

"I think the podium for the yellow jersey will be either Thomas or Carapaz, Pogacar, Roglic. The amount of time trailing will see off any possible upset from the others. I think Porte is the only one who could pull off a surprise. Stage one is perfect for the puncheurs, so I’d go with Van der Poel, Van Aert or Alaphilppe." Don’t want to know what happened today, I’ll watch it later, but I’ve named 3 riders who have won the first stage two stages, Van der Poel was immense yesterday, to pick up the bonus seconds then come back round again and win on that climb was unreal, i dunno what other rider in history could do that, no one probably.

Ok so he's pulled out of the race now but but footballers roll around on the ground crying for half an hour if they get grass stains on their shorts. Shane Sutton rode 9 miles to the finish line, with a broken collar bone. He broke it coming down crank hill, on a stage of the Kellog's tour of Britain. That's my old stomping ground, Shelly brow and Billinge lump" It was my training circuit. Head out through St. Helens, towards crank, shaley brow, aplley bridge, parbold back over ashurst beacon and back along the rainford by pass. If I was lucky, Joey Mcloughlin would join me for a few miles before dropping me easily. I was at Liverpool when he rode in, he stopped after crossing the finishing line, the rest of the race had to complete 5 laps of the town centre.

"To see Cav cross the finish line first again, in paris can only be topped by, meeting Eddy Merkx and seeing those two greats shaking hands on the podium. That would be magic and truly iconic. All systems go: launch the Manx Missile! " Agreed.

"Well proof if proof needed how hard cyclists are. After th massive crashes yesterday one rider got back on his bike and finished the stage.... With two broken arm's!!! I met Joey when coming out of the cinema, when Rainman was on. I wished him luck for the upcoming season's races. I met him again in Liverpool, I had a flat front tyre, when, he walked into the building's entrance after finishing the Tour Of Brtain stage. As for riding, I was riding with my mates and St Helens CRC on the East Lancs road heading back towards the traffic lights at Carr Mill Dam/Laffak, when Manchester Wheelers/ Liverpool CC (The memories are blurred a bit), when they shot past. I tried to do a breakaway, cause I was daft enough to, but it was a pointless spud-catching exercise as they were motoring at 25mph+ verses my 19mph, whilst the others behind me were just cruising at 16mph. Never did catch that lot and didn't want to slow down either. Who was riding in that group? Some Cat 1 amateur who was about to get his Elite licence, called Chris. Yup, Chris Boardman, no wonder they were too fast for me...

"Damn!! Van Aert over the line first, Pogacar still in yellow (nothing new there then ) Great Tour this year, Chapeau to all the teams " Cav just slightly out of position about 350m, lost it when he had to briefly stop peddling. But that's taking nothing away from van aert a stunning finish to what has been a fantastic tour for him. Future GC contender?? But huge applause to Pogacar who's flawless performance has been well above what you would expect from a man/lad his age. Great 3 weeks being on the Olympics

Such a great tour (all bar the horrific crashes), the new kids on the block are taking over!!

He repaid the faith in he team by his performance and getting over the mountains. Are they getting harder every year? 2022 will be the year Cav gets to say "I'm better than Eddy!". So that will be a tour to watch. As for the new kids: this is truly a new era, the race for the white jersey might see some serious competition. Chapeau Cav, for getting the green jersey!

I honestly think Pogacar would still be in yellow, just a great all rounder in this year’s Tour, hold on tight for next year is all I can say
