So I don't know about anyone here, but, don't you find it's becoming a national hobby to create a Facebook tribute/awareness/petition page on the news story of the day!?

I logged in this eve to be told three of my friends now 'like' RIP to the four year old who died at Burnham on Sea and one of these friends also liked RIP Dylan Cecil ( the four year old that died).

So what I'd like to know is, Are these pages a genuine show of sympathy?

Should the parent/relative of the afflicted be the only one to initiate such a page?

Would you want detail's of your loved ones demise open to trolling and the vitriol which a wide audience could show?

Your thoughts please

They soon appear, it's almost like someone wants to be the one to create it and so rush ahead.

I saw in the news somewhere that they have already been trolling the poor boy's mum. Posting messages from the boy. Total sicko's.

I think pages like that are just for people that want to look good. To pretend they care and they click the 'Like' button so all their friends can see.

On likes...

I saw a picture of a really cute child with the caption... 'I know you wont 'like' me because you're racist'.

WTF.

I've given in using the like button unless it's on a more personal note like friends pics or comments.

I actually skimmed through some of the comments on there. One that particularly stood out was....

'RIP little one, so sad. If I were walking with my daughter near the water I would have held her hand extra tight. At least his parents would have learnt a lesson'

Don't do FB. Deleted my original one and started a new profile, so that no one can search or befriend me. I just use it to follow sites that may be of interest to me, that's all.

I kinda see it as a symptom of the sad cultural decline of the country. The whole nation seems supine and full of sacharine sympathy. No one can disagree with any ones opinion any more without it appearing that you not only dont agree with their opinon but with everything that they stand for. False pride and enforced sympathy.....

I blame the French.....

I have 2 FB accounts. One with my real name that I have all my work colleagues etc on. I rarely post or 'Like' anything on it as most of them are just interested in 'Keeping up with the Jones' or only post things to brag.

My other one that I use all the time has my real friends on, the ones that know the real me. I can post what I really think. It's hidden and not searchable and I only add people that I actually like.

I use my Facebook mainly to keep in touch with my friends back home and around the world as have lived in a few places. My mother is on there now and I am constantly having to ask her if she has actually read half the stuff she has liked...lol...there wad a pic going round of the founders of the "chick fil a" restaurants in the states and my.mum liked it as she said they were a cute old couple...what her like was doing was actually showing support for a racist homophobic group that posted the pic as the couple are famously known for their homophobic views...

I use facebook most days. My family are spread all over the country and overseas and its a way for us all to keep in touch (aswell as phone, skype etc)

What does annoy me is when people have arguements with family members or friends and actually slag eachother off and put personal details on there !! Why !!!

If i have something personal to say I use private messages if cannot phone them.

A woman who live across the cross the road from me regularly changes her status with things like "If you wanna slag my daughter off come and see me, you know who you are" ! usually followed by unmentionable language. I choose to unsubscribe from her posts.

Never wanted to do Facebook, twitter or any of that sort of site. Looked wrong from the outset IMHO.

Sad thing is that because of the commercial power of Facebook businesses are advertising there and nowhere else so you 'have' to be on it ffs.

And as for Twitter well l give up!

Just platforms for t'internet trolls to do their thing.

Had enough of Bookface for all sorts of reasons and deleted my account about four months ago. God, it felt good! As for Twatter, you can stick that where the sun don't shine.

Wish a few more people got off 'social networking' sites (Fabs excluded of course!) and go out in the real World and talk to REAL people for once! Like we used to.......

FACEBOOK!!!

As a behaviour specialist in a secondary school i curse the day facebook was created. This social network site has caused so much pain and sorrow. Why would anyone want to publicily air the arguments like this. What a way to find out you have been dumped by your partner because there relationship status has been changed. I sympathise with people who have family all over the place but texts and emails still exist as does a phone call. I wonder what the ratio of good things facebook has done in comparison to bad. Cyber bullying come to the forefront because if facebook and msn. Not a day goes by at school when i dont here the words "he/she said on facebook" and its not just the pupils, thier parents get involved too.

How many suicides, abductions, rapes and murders could have been avoided without it.

Just to clarify i am not normally a negative guy but facebook really gets to me. Would it be so bad if it was closed down lol

The way their share price is going (halved in value since it was floated) you won't have to wait too much longer!

I actually think im the only person in the UK without a face book account, people actually look at me shocked when i say that, they seem to put it on par with me saying i dont have a arse hole

Ive actually had guys on here getting funny with me when they have asked me to add them and ive said i dont use face book, they seem to think im saying it because i dont like them because its simply cant be true i really dont use face book

It's just grief tourism when people do this and it gets right on my tits. Like when you get walls of flowers outside a place vaguely associated with someone who has died from people who have no connection or never met the person in question.

I'm not heartless, but I'll feel grief for someone close to me and that's all. I'll not go bonkers down interflora for little timmy who was mauled to death by a budgie.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings - but i'm not on there either!

Would rather stick 'Stephen and the twins' in a magimix than go on there. The day I join up will be shortly before never and just after hell freezes over!

And I thought 'The Social Network' was shit too!

I hate facebook with a passion, its the cause of so many problems between people that are meant to be adults, bitchiness, status wars, bullying, relationship breakups, popularity contests, people getting into trouble at work as they can't be responsible with using facebook and then wondering why employers question what they have on their pages?

So I come on here instead, where its meant to be more adult

I didn't feel the need to 'like' the page or write an empty outpouring of grief for the world to see.

I did however drop a few quid in the RNLI box when I brought some milk this afternoon

I dont mind it, I just avoid the problems..as for those claiming its to blame for lotsa problems?...nahhh..its those who use it that cause the problems.I dont believe guns are evil or bad..they are inanimate objects...just like facebook, whoever is in control of the inanimate object is who's to blame if they cant control themselves, as to society's norms.

To be perfectly honest...much of what we do on the forums is facebook style..we are no better or no worse.

Swinging site yes, but we are all supposed to be people and grown ups who can discuss things that maybe arent of a swinging nature.

Facebook is great, think of all the time it would take to ring all your 'friends' and tell them you had just woken up, looked out of the window and seen a rainbow and was considering going for a shit..or maybe saving it for later!!!..

What better way is their to draw attention to yourself, add hundreds of 'friends' (99% of which you dont know)..and slag someone off instead of having to go to all the bother of actually saying it to their face?...

Long may the provider of the original online bitch fight continue..
