Mind maps to help process feelings

Do any of you use the technique of mind mapping to help you process your own feelings?

It is something I had read about, but haven't done before today.

I am scribbling down anything. Every thought that comes into my mind related to what I am focussing on.

No thoughts are right.

None are wrong.

They are just thoughts.

They are all valid.

The process of writing them down and then reviewing them later will be beneficial in processing my feelings on a subject.

Any help or advice on how to do this well would be appreciated.

I haven't done this myself but you can get apps for mind mapping.

I don't mind map, but I do sometimes use journalling or morning pages, just to get the feelings out of my system.

I do and I always have. I tend to do on paper as it's habbit with various pen colours. I tend not to think as I do it and just get it on paper and then look over it and draw a final draft my first one is like an explosion.

I have tried journals but can't keep it up, mind mapping sounds interesting though.

Is it helpful to go back and read through everything?

Journalling is good as well. I won't start that though as it is something that takes time on a regular basis, more like a habit you need to get in to.

There definitely is power in putting your thoughts down on paper whether it be as a random spewed out mind map of thoughts, or something more structured as in your journal.

I use a combination of journal writing for writing feeling on the day. The mind mapping for me is how things impact me and what I do that make things better or worse. So I can better understand what I need to do to feel better

Kind of similar, I did an excerise on internalised beliefs recently.

So for example the first one I did was around my internalised beliefs about money, wrote them all down, then followed it up with new beliefs refuting any of the negative ones.

I found it really useful.

Beliefs aren't facts but sometimes we live our lives as if they were.

That sounds really positive.

In my mind mapping I am exploring all feelings and thoughts on my selected topic. I am allowing myself to feel the negative emotions and then find the good emotions to think about too!

I choose to focus on the things that make me feel good and happy about my topic of thought.

And this helps ease my mind and make me calm.

I don't necessarily do it regularly - it's more, it's there when I need a feelings vomit

I suppose it's how you process things - I find the idea of mapping things out, however informally, too distracting.

I'm not sure if it's mind mapping but I worry tree my thoughts. Even stuff which isn't necessarily "worrying". Everything gets scheduled in the calendar on my phone if needs be, nonsense happy thoughts are left milling around. Unpleasant thoughts are shown the door via projecting a big stop sign in my minds eye and then slowly dissipating it to see an infinite, white, bright space. If the thought comes back in I repeat until it's gone.

I'm still working on getting rid of the bad ones and also the nonsense ones when I need to focus but I'm a lot better than I used to be and the progress is positive
