EURO 2020 Day 10 : Wales for Wembley?

So we enter the final round of group games which means simultaneous kick off times to avoid any unfair advantage.

Today it’s the turn of Group A at 5pm (no 8pm games tonight) and the fate of Wales!

A win vs Italy in Rome will see them top the group and play at Wembley next Saturday evening in the Round of 16, a draw will see them finish 2nd, and a game in Amsterdam also next Saturday.

It all gets interesting if Wales lose and the Swiss win their game: it will be down to goal difference as to who finished 2nd and 3rd in the group .. Wales currently have GD of +2, Switzerland -3, but that can all change later!

What are your predictions? I’m going for:

Italy 3-0 Wales

Switzerland 2-0 Turkey

Whatever happens Wales need to avoid a heavy defeat as goal difference could decide the best 4 3rd place finishers on 4pts who progress

Is starting games simultaneously now defunct as goal-alert smartphone technology ( to the benches)takes seconds ..

Italy win and looking good to win the tournament...now they've changed to an attacking team.

It’s always been the case via radio updates or a telephone call though, and avoids potential collusion if teams know how an earlier kick off has ended. It’s a shame from a tv viewership perspective but the right thing for fairness, I think! Just my view, like

As they are already through and no obvious advantage on winning the group, Italy may see this game as a chance to rest a couple of their key players which could be an advantage to Wales, therefore I can see this being closer than a 3-0 game even though Italy have strong players throughout their squad if Wales can get to 60mins level or even a goal down I think the last half hour will be very dull with few chances. But I'm usually crap at predicting games....

Don’t rule out Welsh passion and spirit stopping Italy destroying us, we also have Bale and Ramsey. I do think they’ll take the win but I am going for 2-1

For those missing their 2pm kick off fix, it’s the Conference PlayOff Final this afternoon too, Torquay vs Hartlepool on BT Sport for those that have it

Princes Risborough, Luasanne, Alderney

Daniel James is just comming to peak performance now, he will make a massive difference tonight. i think harry wilson will play a bigger part along with neco williams. ramsey, allen, moore and roberts may not play the full 90.

c'mon midffild!!!

I wonder why they went with 5pm kick offs today rather than 8pm as they would only do that in some sort of global sports clash.. and with the french GP starting at 2.. that would have given them hours of lead in in…

Anyway… Wales 1st.. reward… Wembley next Saturday 8pm against winner of Austria vs Ukraine

Wales 2nd…. Reward… Amsterdam next Saturday 5pm kick off probably against the winner of Denmark vs Russia

Who really wants to play football at 8 o'clock in the evening?

It's bedtime

One other thing to look out for…. If you are a Scot… the perfect result in the Switzerland Turkey game would be a draw… as it would knock out both teams.. as Switzerland then could not be one of the 4 best 3rd place teams…..

Italy score .. now it’s interesting!

Wales and Switzerland tied on 4pts as it stands, Wales’ goal difference advantage down to +2 (started at +5) so they’re still 2nd as it stands

Why do the cameramen (I'm going with all of them being men) always focus on the pretty women in the crowd?

Looking good for Wales now.

2nd place looking assured, much like a training game now, Italy safe, 3 wins out of 3, giving the squad some minutes so Wales got to play them at exactly the right time.

Looks like a game in Amsterdam next Saturday, a nice short trip for the Welsh!

FT and a creditable performance from Wales.

Italy win the group, will play at Wembley next Saturday.

Wales second, will play in Amsterdam on Saturday, Switzerland 3rd on 4pts will need to see if they’re one of the best 3rd place finishers before knowing their fate.

Turkey, fancied by some, lose all 3 and are out. That’s Group A done and dusted!!

"Italy are going to take some beating."

Yep, played a few squad players today, didn’t really get much further than second gear and still looked really comfortable. Next game is away though (at Wembley) so will be interesting to see how they play away from Rome.

2nd is decent isn’t it, I actually fancy the Welsh against Finland or Russia (or possibly Denmark?) next week .. then anything can happen in the Quarters in a one off game as proved last time v Belgium

Hapus iawn.

We know we’re not world-beaters, but a gutsy effort, and to get out of the group again is great.

It would likely be the Russia/Denmark winner.. bearing in mind everything the Danes have been thru and they get the game in Copenhagen … I’d fancy Denmark big time… a draw would be enough for the Russians for 2nd place unless Finland pull out a miracle against Belgium

North West

I was pleased overall with the boyos yesterday. Some silly fouls given away which then lead to the goal and the red card was silly, BUT we had some good spells and didn't get annihilated by any means. We can do this!
