In Portugal, pasteis are found on every street corner. ... They are distinguished from other pastéis de nata by their slightly salty and extremely crisp puff pastry – partly from being baked at 400C – and the custard, made only with milk, not cream, which is less sweet.

Pastel de nata

These Pastry of Creme.......

I don't like them being called custard tarts as they are so very different. Far more luxurious and calorific.

But essentially they are but with a custard cream and a flaky pastry.

Used to be a holiday thing. Now they are very commonplace.

Most are made there and frozen, baked fresh to eat here! One thing that absolutely has to be eaten fresh ... yummy!

The best! The most delughtful ones are made in a shop in Lisbon dedicated exclusively to churning them out in large quantities. They still use a recipe which is a closely guarded secret.

Well there's no need to import them,they can be baked from scratch here in England, as long they are not made with custard. It looks custard tarts but isn't and yes there's a lite secret how to baked
