The BBC football "expert" anyone else find her annoying and her destruction if the English language, can she not say a g at the end of a word. I'll probably get criticised for being anti gay.

She’s far from the worst pundit. There are a few men and women I’d rate below her, and for what it’s worth the “banter” between Lee Dixon and Ally McCoist during last nights ITV commentary was fucking woeful.

Yep. She's a very knowledgeable former football player and what I've seen of her as a pundit, she's very fair and objective.

She is gay (she's engaged to a woman) but I've never thought her punditry was in any way misogynistic (as someone else has said). I'm pretty sure being lesbian does not automatically make someone a misogynist

Not that it's really important, but she's in a same sex relationship and engaged to a woman:

"Scott and former teammate Kelly Smith bought a house and lived together in Hertfordshire. The pair also lived with each other after they both travelled to America together to play for the Boston Breakers. Their relationship only ended when Kelly left having met her wife-to-be DeAnna. Both returned to England to play for Arsenal together in 2012 after the collapse of their American league."

It's a little bit of both. I was pondering this actually the other day as I have the same issue with Nolly Waterman on the rugby.... And I think some of it could be that it's just "different" and I need to get used to it... A bit like when coverage goes from BBC to itv or to a different broadcaster. For me she seems to say lots and lots of words but none of them inform or illuminate particularly... Almost like she gets paid by the word.

I find her very focused on the football and not on the faff that goes alongside. She's got no agenda in men's football, whereas many of the male pundits are (perhaps understandably) biased towards their former or current club or nation, I find.

To me punditry in general is pretty crap. No issue with Alex over any of the rest.

There’s an element of we need to be entertaining, say something controversial but not too controversial.

I usually watch match of the day or similar on catch up so can fast forward through boring pundits saying obvious cliches. “He’s world class” “should of done better there” “seems to have lost his confidence”

I don't even know where to start with this. Men are involved in women's football as coaches, managers etc and also as commentators and pundits. Women are involved in men's football in various ways. Football is football. Just like the 100m is still the 100m but they have a men's and a women's competition due to the physiological difference between men and women. Both male and female athletes commentate and comment on both genders.

Any gender can make accurate and insightful comments on a sport that can be played by anyone.

"Come on she just started it's her first there are lots of pundits that been doing it for years and talk shit every day I could list dozens of clueless clowns analysing football matchs

Kind of... Prior to the last few years most of the talki g heads and commentators cut their teeth on a few guest appearances , local TV etc rather than be parachuted into the top national coverage. Many of the men have the same issue now of learning on the job. Doesnt mean we have to like it.

You mean a bit like Alex Scott did?

"Scott began her media career while still playing football, appearing on programmes such as Soccer AM with other minor roles at BBC Sport, BT Sport, and Sky Sports"

I don't remember, for example, Alan Shearer doing any media for Blackburn or Newcastle areas prior to him starting with the Beeb (or frankly any other ex Prem player in my memory)."

Shearer is pretty good now... But it has taken him long enough... And yes that's exactly what I mean.. Which is why I explicitly stated many of the men have the same issue.

Shearer retired in 2006, so you must be referring to a pretty long while ago

Alex Scott played for Arsenal and England. What did Shearer win? The Prem with Blackburn in 1995. Two FA Cups with Newcastle and absolutely fuck all with England. Although I do hold him up as an outstanding striker, by the way, because he was.

Scott won FA Women's Premier League titles; 1 WSL title; 7 Women's FA Cups; 2 FA Women's Premier League Cups; 3 FA WSL Cups; 1 UEFA Women's Cup and the England team she played in came 3rd in the Women's World Cup. England men lost the 2018 WC third place play off and Shearer's closest to any honours with England I think was Euro '96.

I don't think anyone needs to have played a sport to present it and I don't think the fact you've played it very well instantly makes you a good pundit or presenter. David Coleman presented motd very well for years brilliant... John motson, Jim rosenthal, Brian Moore all excellent commentators didn't play at any level. Measuring someones cv still doesn't mean that anyone should like their work as a pundit or commentator. If your job is talking it's important people like what you have to say and how you say it... Some people like her some people don't.

Which is fine. But we have posters above suggesting that as a rule, women cannot possibly comment on men's football due to their perception of the standard of the game.

Women can comment on men's sport. Men can comment on women's sport. Able bodied people can comment on disability sport. Disabled people can comment on able bodied sport. Sports are sports and as you say, you don't have to have played professionally to comment!

I've loved that cuddly show over the years and whoever takes over has a tough format to follow... Much like the new top gear which has never managed to connect the way the old gang did.

I watched the last show , must admit I had a lump in my throat. Yes anyone taking the chair and the captain chairs is going to be a tough act to follow , I also heard but not sure if true that they’re introducing a comedian possibly Jack Whitehall as a captain , really can’t see that working , could end up like Would I Lie To You show ?

Jack Whitehall! Fuck me sideways... Bring back our enry...

They'll find a way of getting viewers to "text in" and vote for something next.....
