According to the press there has been a rise in newspaper reporters being assaulted and chased at rallies and demonstrations. Are they under pressure to get too close to the action? Are they seen as the enemy by misrepresenting the facts? Do they need special protection? Or are they fair game?

Is there a psychology here. Run and you will be chased. Stand your ground and you won't ?

They are untouchable and unregulated. It's one of the reasons we get the awful agenda op Ed news creators we have. They and their organisations need to take responsibility for what they create.

As for what we "see" or think we have seen... Hmmm don't forget every situation is an opportunity.

To be clear I'm not condoning violent protest.

Lets not call out anyone for being biased or clickbaiting. Lets keep the status quo. That will do wonders for society moving forward

I think that the demonisation of parts of the press and polarisation of outlets has led to this point.

If certain media outlets are seen as the mouthpiece of the opposition, and views are increasingly divided, then reporters will be seen as the enemy.

Journalists aren’t unbiased, they incite and rouse divisive opinion, they present opinion as fact.

No one should be attacked or chased for their views but I can understand why certain journalists are seen as contrary to expression of views and informed debate

I think there is a tendency to confer the title journalist on anyone who creates or generates or repeats or editorialises content. And that journalists are somehow a protected species of noble types who benefit society. Some do. Some fact check. Most content however is not even attributed and anyone with a keyboard or camera can play at being a journalist now. Sadly distribution platforms don't take responsibility for their content.
