How do you usually break the negativity cycle?

Been a bit in a negative thought path all day , u know like the thing that leads to the other and keeps going and going and makes you feel like a total failure… well was wondering, what’s your way to break that chain of thought? X

I find my cycle of negativity is largely dependent on my mood and any sort of activity in my routine can lift it wether it's eating, going to the gym, watching TV etc. It's just something different from what was getting me overwhelmed

Completely change what I am doing, physically move, you may not always identify what is making you unhappy but thats ok

A good workout, or getting out into nature with the dog - great to clear the mind.

A good laugh can really help -stand up comedy can be a tonic. That and a good nights sleep (or even a power nap).

Hope you feel better soon

Dedicate time in the day to reflect and try make sense of the emotion, then move on… repeat daily where needed and look at also dedicating time for positive thinking etc

You're definitely not alone ducky. I've found jogging really helps. Also a good sitcom or podcast helps. Try Blindboy's podcast if you haven't heard it before and /or the American version of the Office which is funny and sweet. There's also a million episodes so it'll keep you going for a while. Hugs x

I take myself to the seaside. It always calms me and helps me refocus x

This sounds the best way! There’s so much piece coming from the sea/ocean. So jel, I think that’d rebalance me as well x I could lose myself watching the sea

Exactly, and if you can't do anything different immediately, screaming into a pillow always helps

Can I grab anything that might resemble a baseball bat and hit it instead? Or would I come off to much like a crazy woman?

Do something different. Break the routine. And switch off and really listen to what you need in a moment. Then just follow that ASAP. Self poke..

Distraction. I usually find going for a walk or reading a book - even if to start with I can't focus on it if I 'make' myself stick with it then it becomes the main focus.

Roughly it's about bringing youeself into the now rather than thinking about the past or future.

Look-up Mindfulness or CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) for tips.

I do something that requires my full attention so my mind can't slip off into negative patterns, or go to the woods or somewhere else lovely and green. If my mind keeps going back to negative places I take a moment to notice and ask myself "is this helpful?". After interrupting the cycle enough times it tends to fade away.
