It might not be the most obvious place to ask such a thing but with people from all walks of life on here where better?

Need something new to get into. Have watched power, breaking bad, prison break. Never liked the walking dead or game of thrones

Upstart Crow - had me almost crying with laughter at times. Highly recommend.

Inside No 9 - all are very weird with some, darkly comic.

Deutschland 83

Deutschland 86

Deutschland 89

They are in German with subtitles, available on Channel 4.

They follow a young man from communist East Germany in the 80s named Martin Rauch, who is coerced into spying for the East German intelligence agency. Each series centres around real historical events, and they have imagined characters involved in them. We are hooked.

Ozark is great too if you haven't seen it.

I've recently started watching the American version of the Office and after a slow first series it's great. It's much more gentle than the UK version and Steve Carell is great. There's also Loads of episodes so it'll keep you occupied for quite a while!

Not a TV series but I've been watching Dark Side of the Ring alot lately. It's a documentary series about the seedier side of old school pro wrestling (WWF/WCW etc). Episodes are really interesting and really well made.

Also Clarkson has made a new series about his farm that he bought in Oxfordshire which I'm gonna start watching. If only to see how long it takes him to flip the tractor over

Doom Patrol is really really good

Dirk Gently's holistic Detective agency is good but is an aquired taste. Both the bbc version and the netflix version are worth a watch.

Narcos is a good one

Dark has to be one of the best, most mind bending European shows out there and actual credits the audience with having intelligence lol.

I'll Second Gomorrah (yes Italian subs)

Money heist is also excellent (better to watch with subs as Netflix appear to use the same people for all their dubbed shows, which just freaks me out)

Honorable mentions for:

Succession

Billions

Vikings

Godfather of Harlem

The Deuce

Sinner

Das Boot (the new series)

Looks like you have a few to choose from now

My input would be!!

24 - its addictive edge of your seat good from the first episode

Blindspot - completed first season so far so good naked chic covered in tattoos left in a bag in the middle of nyc with no memory! What guy can resist

And my lst would be one I received from my friend

Designated survivor - only seen a few of these so can’t comment to much but what I’ve seen looks to be a good boxset to get into. About to have a op which is going to put me out of action for 3 months I will be defo picking one of these to keep me occupied

Been mentioned already but Peaky Blinders, especially once Tom Hardy turns up, he's hilarious.

Although you will end up a Nick Cave fan if you weren't one already.

If you are into Science fiction, the reboot Battlestar Galactica is still one of the best bits of telly in the last 20 years in my opinion.

It's always going to be tricky to recommend something to someone without knowing what their bag is.

Some favourites from a few different genres of mine though:

Drama - Chernobyl. A truly superb production that really doesn't hold back on just how terrifying the real life disaster was. Given that they had to squeeze a couple of years of real life events, from the reactor first going bang to the subsequent enquiries once the initial danger had subsided into just 5 hours and simplify the science for the casual viewer, some liberties have been taken with people and events, but on the whole, it's frighteningly accurate.

War - Das Boot. A very atmospheric mini series about a German U Boat's patrol. It's a masterclass in tension, with some of the scenes when they're being hunted raising a genuinely uncomfortable feeling of anxiety, giving a pretty relatable sense of just how terrifying being a submariner on an old diesel electric boat that didn't have anything like the underwater duration of a modern nuclear powered sub must have been.

Science Fiction - Battlestar Galactica reboot. A gritty and much darker remake of the velour fest 1970's show. Edward James Olmos's performance as the commander is quite possibly my top performance of any actor in any TV series. There's no moral do good message of the week nonsense here, with the flaws of human nature laid bare for all to see.

Super Hero - The Boys. No clean cut Marvel and DC crap here. Blood, guts, lots of swearing and Karl Urban in full on bad ass mode, regarding friend and foe alike to be "a cunt".

Nostalgiafest - Cobra Kai. Ever wondered what happened to the Karate Kid and his nemesis Johnny Lawrence when they grew up? No, neither did anyone else. As it turns out though, their grown up lives are hilariously stuck in the past. No recasting here, with all the original actors, whether they were major or minor characters in the films, coming back. Willaim Zabka as a 50something year old high school jock holding on to his 1980's political correctness values (or rather, lack of) in particular is absolutely brilliant!

Reality- Clarkson's Farm. Love or hate the guy, you know what you can expect from him. But taken out of his comfort zone and thrust into a line of work that's completely alien to him does make for some very interesting viewing. At times, it even manages to be quite tender and sweet. Clarkson's mentor Kaleb is a superstar in the making too. Young enough to be Clarkson's grandson, but not afraid to deliver a no nonsense, mature beyond his years counter to Clarkson's 60 year old manchild buffoonery, with zero fucks given to Jeremy's celebrity status.
