Creepiest Music in Films

What is the creepiest music in movies you have heard that sends a shiver down your spine?

For me, it has to be the music from the Spindle scene from Sleeping Beauty. It sure amplifies the fear factor with Maleficent appearing in the fireplace and Aurora following that glowing green orb in that creepy looking trance.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Jerry Goldsmith’s brilliant and delightfully ominous, ‘Ave Satani’ from The Omen.

Ah yes. The only score to rival the Tubular Bells from The Exorcist.

And talking of John Carpenter, his score for The Fog and Ennio Morricone’s score for Carpenter’s, The Thing are also noteworthy

Another creepy score for me has to be from the 1960 film The Time Machine known as 'Trapped in the Future'.

It's starts off with a creepy little piano motif followed by some eerie notes on the violins indicating the future the time traveller is in has a dark side and the terrible danger that he unaware of that lurks in the darkness.

All John Carpenter films have that little bit extra in the soundtracks that adds to the film

.

It's quite a new film but there's a particular piece in 10 Cloverfield Lane called Howard that's full of subtle dread and rising tension (Bear McCreary also did TWD opening credits).

And it's not quite as terrifying as Carpenter levels but John Murphy's In A Heartbeat, well the opening bars with the repetitive two notes and the chords being interwoven is fantastic and haunting.

The theme of The Thing is good too. The two beats that plays throughout the theme is quite like a human heartbeat but doesn't seem human.

If I remember, the opening music is actually the chant of death and it can be heard in multiple movies.

I've just remember a creepy score from the 1999 remake of The Mummy known as The Crypt.

It makes me picture being inside some dark ancient catacombs never knowing what dangers might be lurking round the corner waiting in the darkness.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Here’s one that I’m stretching it with a bit, (if I may?) both in terms of it being not a traditional horror film (although it is frequently listed as belonging to said genre) and additionally, not a traditionally creepy score.

The score in question is to Peter Weir’s classic, Picnic At Hanging Rock which, within it’s various set tracks, is simultaneously beautiful, majestic, haunting, eerie and indeed yes, somewhat creepy.

About the only thing that film had going for it was Debbie Harry - am sure me and my mates weren't alone in going to see it for that reason and that reason only

That song used to freak my old neighbour out...I was once watching the film and she started screaming in the back garden when it got to that bit (the window was open, I didn't have the TV on really loud). I ran out with a hammer thinking she was being attacked or something

"Omen"

The first time I heard The Omen theme tune was on a CD called Themes of Horror 2 but the difference is there are no lyrics as they're replaced with aahs.

For some reason, this version seems a bit darker than the original.

Agree with this.. That helicopter ride to Juarez was very ominous.

My shout out goes to NiN score of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Gone girl. The two most explosive scenes in those, no plot spoilers, has very un-nerving music.
