I never really saw the point of lads mags. You might as well just get a copy of Razzle instead. Straight to the point

Interesting topic OP. Would you still have purchased the mags if they didnt have women in? Doesnt something like GQ magazine cover the topics you’ve mentioned?

Have to agree with you on this.

Nothing worse than a little girl looking for Disney princess and seeing a whole different kind of princess

Very understandable most places didn't evan keep them on top shelf until towards the end and the they shouldn't of had half naked girls on the front cover.

Thank you,

Yes i probably would because they did slightly more than GQ with the added extra of it been weekly you felt you was more upto date than all the monthly one's and women in it was a bruicey bonus x

But the Internet covers all those things and more.

They became essentially redundant.

That's like saying we might aswell close all book shops and any other shop because you can get it from the Internet

I think that they went the same way as other ‘lads mags’. People used the internet for their fix of soft porn and light misogyny, thus sounding the death knell of them.

I think that they moved online for a while.

To be honest, I found them really cringeworthy and just reinforced a very questionable mentality so wasn’t sad to see them go

Not quite. You 'technically' still have to pay for books online, legally at least. A £10 - £20 book is better investment than a low rate lads mag, of which everything in it can be legally viewed for free somewhere online.

People like physical copies of books to display on a book shelf for decorative purposes. Share them for others to read and enjoy - no way would you catch me sharing somebody else's lad mag...

It's ok to share as long as the pages aren't stuck together.

They were ok and definitely a product of their time, there’s a bit of magazine snobbery in this thread like no teen girls magazine ever showed pics of hot celeb men with their tops off ...

They appealed to a certain demographic for a while and the market decided that their time was up. C’est la vie!

Like a previous poster has stated, they made browsing the magazine aisle in newsagents difficult with kids and were incredibly sexist.

When “lad mags” started in the 90’s they were very well writtten with some interesting articles (Loaded for instance), but within a few years the writing quality dropped and they were just glossy glamour mags.

Very different , they had porn covers, including 2 women getting it on , nothing wrong with that but they were targeting children and getting around porn laws on packaging and shelf height, specifically to sexualise little kids.

The market didn’t decide their time was up, it took a lot of fighting and eventually Tesco gave in when we damaged their reputation and enough people began to switch supermarket. Then others followed suit, and then they packaged them and sales obviously dried up
