There has been an outcry from some for the perceived intrusion of the poor footballer having a heart episode at the Euros and the continuous filming by the broadcaster. I didn't watch it but surely you just change channels.

I think they should have panned away but as you say if you think someone's privacy is being invaded turn the telly off.

There's no shortage of clips on YouTube though posted by "concerned" fans crying crocodile tears

There is no 'precieved' intrusion. The BBC should have cut to the studio rather than using the somewhat lame excuse of "oh uefa control the cameras"

Pretty certain if it was you having a cardiac arrest you wouldnt want it broadcast round the world... With additional images of your panicked and distraught spouse...

Dear lord above what happened to "be kind"... Why is it such a hardship for people to consider other people?

They didn’t actually know what was happening or why he’d collapsed at the time though.

Well if you saw it happen and you want to know what is happening and if he is ok...

Doesn't mean you want to watch him recieving CPR, or want to see his wife.

The whole thing was handled badly by most broadcasters. I believe Sweden were the only ones to cut straight to the studio on realising how serious it was.

True. But how many of them require CPR? The second CPR was started it was pretty clear how serious it was.

Hell even people on Twitter at the time were tweeting the BBC telling them to cut to studio (including Writey)

They should have immediately cut to the studio as soon as cpr was started. Instead we got close ups of cpr being performed and his distraught wife/gf.

Can try and sugar coat it with "just change the channel" all you want. It shouldn't have been shown.

That’s fair. I didn’t see it and I’ve not seen the coverage so I don’t know how it was handled

For example I saw an elderly gentleman fall in the street recently. As soon as I saw that he was being looked after I quickly walked on, loads of people stopped to gawp as he laid on the ground clearly in distress.

Not in any way what I expected the topic of discussion to be when I opened this thread.

I do think they should've panned away or stopped the filming and cut back to a studio, but I wouldn't have sat and watched when I could easily have changed channels.

I think once it became apparent this was serious they should have cut away to a long shot or even picture of the stadium. There's a load of things you can blame the BBC for but on this occasion I'd give them a qualified pass.

I'm imagining some panic set in amongst the production team and they simply got it wrong, it was troubling for everyone, I just left the room once I saw the poor fella was in bad shape.

Lol well there are habitual BBC bashers. A description rather than name calling.

Some people in the production team made a mistake - a very public mistake and Im sure they deeply regret it. We all agree that they should have stopped broadcasting earlier.

However, people could have stopped watching. Its not like the BBC forced people to carry on watching. There is real hypocrisy in some of these posts.

The BBC had the option to "cut to the studio" when the severity of the incident was clear... you don't give CPR for a sprain, do you? They din't take that option, they most likely will next time.

I did turn off when it was clear how serious it was and the CPR started, basically I couldn’t watch. I didn’t see the bit where they showed his distraught partner on the pitch but have heard about it.

I get that it’s not the BBC’s pictures but surely someone in the production team should have made the call to cut away back to the studio earlier - I understand it was 10-15 mins??

The guy could have died on the pitch, very disrespectful. The Danish coverage cut away after about a minute, apparently.

Theyb have no direct control over the cameras but, if it had been a streaker, the BBC would have instantly cut to the studio. That's all they needed to do and should have done as soon as it became obvious that it was a really serious.
