It hasn't caused us any issues.

There is a 13 year age gap but we both wanted the same things in life.

The only issue friends of mine have had is when the younger one wants children but the older one has already had children and doesn't want any more.

"Sooo dating someone who’s 25 when your 43 ok? 18 year gap… Any couples with big age gaps tell me the pros cons and how you find it …does it really matter??"

I tried with a 16 year gap, him 25 me 41, insecurity got the better of me and spoiled it, I have children, he didn't, I didn't want him to resent me years down the line if he decided he wanted them of his own and I couldn't give him that as he was undecided on the whole children thing.

That's not saying it couldn't work for anyone else, that's just my experience

Im 56 my partner is 78 weve been together 15 years not really any cons never thought that much about the age gap. The only time i mention it is on here. Family and friends never mention it theyve always accepted it.

Hes slowing down now at 78 but when i got into a relationship with him he was early 60s and i knew he wasnt going to get any younger.

At 43 your in your prime so a good few years before you start slowing down

Depends if you’re looking for long term or fun.

Long term more difficult, no point talking about plans for retirement with someone 20 years younger, different music decades in record collections, are you older than her parents, if so is it an issue etc.

If you’re both happy that’s fine, I’ve done the big age difference thing, there wasn’t an age issue until 10 years in and then it became one

Manchester (he/him)

It’s a unique situation for each couple. It depends on relatability, emotional maturity, shared life experience and much more besides.

You’ll hear a hell of a lot from people close to you and others not connected but the only opinions that matter are those of you and your partner

And I'll add it's not something that will put me off, it was just that one experience that went belly up, if the person is right for me then the age gap doesn't matter

I married my ex husband when I was 26 and he was 17 years older. Ok it didn’t work out because we grew apart, but at the time there weren’t really any real cons due to the age gap. Some people did assume he was my dad a few times though

On a serious note, we have discussed loss of sex drive, financials as we get older, dependency, care etc

They all need consideration if you think it's gonna last

Think 30 years ahead, not now cos you're both still young

When you're 65+ and strughling with sex, she'll still be in here late 40's with lots more energy

Would you be happy with her seeing other guys if she needed that outlet?

Dont really see the point of worrying about something which may happen in 30 years time.

Anything can happen in that time..if you are happy now, that's all that matters.

You can live for today and consider the future

If there's a future in it, you have considered some of the potential future issues

I don't feel that detracts from the now, it demonstrates a commitment, an understanding of each others future needs and a will to face them as a couple

If you want a long term relationship with legs you need to confront the potential difficulties

It's not all about 'look at me with my young attractive partner'

I am, of course, talking of when you are established as a couple

In the first few weeks, that kind of discussion would just be odd

Why should you be struggling with sex just because you are 65+. If you have had an active life and are not a couch potato then at 65 and free of mortgages/children/day jobs you are about to enter the best period of your life.

Trust us, we know

I never date a younger woman but I all my submissives were under 28 years old. With two at 19 when I was in my late 40s. But then again we didn’t go out dancing in clubs togethers lol! That would be kind of weird. But we did talk a lots about everything and they were very fun to be with.

Only my own observation over the course of my life, but most 23 yr old girls looking to date a guy in his 40’s have daddy issues.

Ultimately though if you are both happy (and a lot of relationships aren’t) then go for it!

As long you can do most things together I can’t see the problem? If the man is still fit! My uncle is nearly 80 and is skiing, climbing, canoeing, walking up top Lake District mountain, is doing salsa dancing, still funny as fuck. He’s a bit deaf now so need shouting sometime lol.

Do you do everything together with your man?? Couple need independence and doing their own things also to sustain a good relationship

Of course they can’t be normal of course, they must have some sort of trauma to be with an old man. Typical

Are you 100% comfortable with it OP? I may be assuming here, but I feel if you were you wouldn’t ask.

As long as both parties are over 18 and both parties are happy I don’t see the issue.

I’ve always dated older men and never seen an issue with it, but there has been men who although want to date me have felt uncomfortable with age gaps so it hasn’t worked out!

They may or they may not.

My parents had a 20 year age gap and met when my mom was 21, they were happy, in love and together right up until the day my dad died earlier this year.

Some relationships just work regardless of age.

I’m 10 year older than my girlfriend, and we get along amazingly, we have very similar interests to start and that helps. But I don’t think we would have become so good together if the fancying each other hadn’t been there, age hasn’t always n an issue for either of us

Finedon ,

As an unattatched 81 yr old male reading this thread has been interesting. What I would mention is how quickly the situation can change as you get older, up to two years ago I had never had a days illness in my life and lived life to the full, then almost overnight the arthritis in my knees kicked off with a vengeance, almost immediately followed by a heart condition.

Treatment for both has been minimal throughout the covid 19 pandemic, but have now been told I will be getting a pacemaker fitted at some point , but no replacement knee joints for at least 12 months by which time I expect I will be in a bloody care home

Only you can let it be an issue!

27 year age gap between me and my partner and generally we don’t notice - but others do!

We don’t let others views or prejudice bother us - it isn’t their relationship!

We have been together 7 years and have a wonderful baby boy together

As any relationship it has its ups and downs though we don’t think any of these are age related - just standard couple challenges
