Have we lost the sense of civility?

Reading a thread, in which the OP was abused because, as a couple, they refused to meet a guy, who posed as a couple, but after few probing questions turns out to be single. The torrent of abuse and threats the couple received was abhorrent.

Have we lost the sense of treating people with courtesy and respect?

What say you?

One might say it's not very civil to present one version of events in public, in the absence of the other side of the story

One might indeed but do we deserve to be abused if we say no to a meet?

Who do you mean by 'we'? Assuming the story was exactly as related then it would seem the person they got abuse off wasn't very civil to them but it's a big jump to conclude that the rest of society is not civil - assuming that's who you mean by we?

No.

There are good people and rude people.

The good are in the majority in my experience.

Mr"

I meant 'we' as a society.

Calderdale innit

I think it's easy for people to sit behind a computer screen, anonymously and troll others.

Most wouldn't dare do it to someone's face

Anonymity seems to grow a spine for some

You're supposing there was a time when there was more of a sense of civility. Smells like rose-tinted nostalgia for the good old days. Not to be trusted.

Up on them there hills

Problem is (to me) with this site is a sense of scarcity.

Imagine if your air became in short supply, your mind would simply focus on one thing to the detriment of things around you, your state would become driven by need.

There is no scarcity on this site, there are thousands of fun people.

If you see this site as abundant, you will be more relaxed, fun and a lot more appealing over uptight people.

Intense inward focus can create behaviour that is not true to who the person is.

Ask the person who can’t swim who is drowning, more people have been drowned trying to save them.
