Why is it they believe you are stupid if you can’t do what they do?

Yet they can’t do what others do

Including being civil

I am always slightly annoyed by the car parts guys. I go in and ask for a specific part and they then start asking me loads of questions as though I won’t actually have a clue what the part is for. I was married to a mechanic for years and I still ask his advice if necessary.

They then act all surprised when I know what I am talking about.

Not all women are only interested hair, nails, clothes and makeup.

I’ve never spoken to people in that manner ever, when I was building, I’d explain what needed doing and if they asked any questions I’d answer them politely, but I’ve been spoken to like dirt before because I was just a builder.

Sounds like you’ve had a bad experience. Don’t tar all tradesmen with the same brush. Just like any profession you have your wankers and nice people. I’m sure whatever you do there are people that do the exact same thing.

I'm in the Bike Trade..I work from my workshop and mobile... Customers are always greatful for the jobs I do for them, whether a 2nd hand clunker pub bike or a £15k road race bike... And some customers are fussy buggers...treat them right and your busy booms is what I have found

Rude.

Why do you specifically aim this at tradesmen?

You could say this about literally any job that someone does and you don't.

But is it because you don't see tradesmen as being human they are scumbags who don't deserve any respect for years of experience and work, but because we wear dirty clothes and a bit rough around the edges it's fair game to slag us off and rear us like crap.

Yes there's some assholes our there but you can say that about any profession.

But hey it's your choice if you think your DIY knowledge is greater than someone who has been doing the job for 40years.

We are humans with feelings.

Would you take your car in to be repaired then promptly start telling the mechanic how to do his job or go to your GP and tell them or get haircut and tell them how to cut hair?

But because you have seen a YouTube instructional video on how to screw in a lightbulb that makes you a professional?

The main issue with the trade these days it's full of cowboys and chancetakers who aren't PROPER tradesmen who have done a bit of DIY and assume they can make a living out of it and then give everyone else a bad name.

Dunno mate, but this thread is full of people saying nice things about tradesmen, and you claiming they're rude because you don't get a reply.

I'm probably not what you'd class as a tradesman but do know how hard it can be keeping on top of running a business. Right now, trades people are absolutely flat out, perhaps take no reply as "Sorry mate I'm way too busy"

You seem to be saying that because at some undetermined point in the future the balance of supply and demand may swing the other way they should give up there time (which equates to money)to keep people like you happy? Presumably if that swing were to happen you'd be the type to give up your time and money arranging jobs that you don't really want doing simply to keep local trades guys in business so that when demand swings back again they're there for you if you need them?

Been a landlord now for 30 years so have a range of tradesmen work for me.

But 1 house is tenant is always a problem for them.

4 bed detached house in a village.

Couple are the most difficult condescending assholes I've ever had the misfortune to meet.

Having never met me I went to check repair the so called leaking waste pipe under the sink.

It was blocked up and as I dismantled it I got a tirade of abuse and remarks about how if I'd studied harder I might be better than just a sink cleaner

and own a house like theirs.

Finished the job went home and billed them my rates for doing the job as it was their fault.

Moral of the story be careful who you belittle and put down.

You don't know them or their story.
