Artificial Grass

I spoke earlier about I will do it tomorrow saying about cutting grass the in thing seems to be artificial grass thinking about it positives negatives if you have it

I had it in afew of my rentals, its great to look at and very high quality.

But... ive had to remove it from one as they are a young family and their 2 year old has burnt herself on it... also the other one has a little doggy that wont go on it so going to get rid of it there aswell, its terrible for heat being fibres. Just bare that in mind

I used to have an artificial lawn at my previous home.

Benefits... Remains green in heatwaves.

Never needs mowing.

Good if you suffer from an allergy to grass.

Drawbacks...

Very expensive.

You need to sweep or hoover up leaves off it, as it gets layed onto chipping stones so worms cannot come to the surface to naturally pull down the leaves into the soil.

Birds hate it as they can't access worms/grubs like in a natural lawn.

You never get the lovely smell of freshly cut grass.

I now have a real grass lawn. It isn't in perfect condition and there are lots of s.

But I enjoy it far more than I ever did my "lazy lawn!"

A relative of mine has artificial grass and now wishes he'd stuck with the real thing as apparently it's more hassle than it's worth

Noooo stick to the real thing...and don't follow the silly trends Birds cannot dig or feed from worms...it's made from plastic so bad for the environment and just does not look as good, and it also can cause burns when it's hot!!

I also had a ‘lazy lawn’ put in. It was actually really nice, but I always felt guilty about the environmental costs. I also have a dog which means it can get a bit smelly in the heat.

I’ve reverted to a real lawn, but encouraged moss to grow. Moss is great for carbon capture, retains moisture which in turn encourages wildlife, stays green all year, doesn’t need cutting and is nice and bouncy to sit on. It also doesn’t die or turn yellow when the dog on it.

Sadly most lawn products in the UK are set on killing off moss from your lawn when, in fact, it’s amazing stuff!

I love mine it’s so natural looking but had to pay a lot to get such good quality. If your going to do it get the best you can afford. I have a lot of shrubs and flowers in my garden which helps it look more natural too. Only issues I’ve found is it’s similar to a beech in that it gets super hot in the weather we are having right now

If installed correctly it's a proper pain, I had to lay a 5x4m artificial lawn for a customer. 3tons of soil dug out and 1 ton of rubble, 1 ton of chippings topped off with 1 ton of sharp sand and the artificial grass can then be laid. not just a simple matter of laying it on top of an existing surface. Seen it stinking laying in water logged moss and dog muck in lots of yards too when laid straight on the concrete. Not a fan.

Some might say it's a pain to cut the grass, but only if you let it get long...it's actually quite relaxing if you do it short,..you can 'chill out 'with the world, when you're doing it.

sorry to disagree, I've only a small balcony, but the quite realistic fake grass really shows off the real plants, and is so much better than looking at the 'decking 'wood.

I do mine twice a year , I let it grow into a meadow , there’s wild flowers tulips, Lilly’s, grass, s, all mixed in. At the start and end of summer I take an angle grinder to the mower blade and make it razor sharp and rip through the meadow without a bag it takes about 30 mins and just leave all the grass on and it magically disappears within a week
