There's an art to 'debating' on the interwebbys. Stay detached. Don't engage with someone who uses deliberately emotive language or personal attacks. If you feel yourself getting riled and want a rant then have someone in PMs you can rant to. And if nothing else just write your comment and then move on.

Reading

Yes i have been way too caught up in some of the debates and it did make me angry especially the race debates. The virus forum often gets nasty but i can roll my eyes more easily at those.

Exactly this. Some people like to deliberately wind others up. Ignore it, and stay detached.

It’s difficult at the best of times.

Debating requires a detachment and a precision of language in order to remain respectful. Even then you can’t account for ascribed tone and the connotations attached to words by others.

That’s before you get into people just wanting to make personal attacks, misunderstanding or misinterpreting your words, ignorance, etc

Pick your battles

I agree so too hun, it can be very tricky and I think most don't question their assumption of what they think a person is saying so they get wound up. I would always try to ask first to get that understanding from the person or people.

Sometimes there's just no winning in the forums between people *sighs* oh dear ay xx

Yeah I try to stay more involved in the light hearted threads. I wouldn't really want to be in any conflict with a person from here.

The saying its a small world is sometimes true and I wouldn't want to think someone would judge me before knowing me in person because of a misunderstanding from a forum as well as some don't like to hear a different opinion than their own but that's what makes us all unique.xx
