The irony is the artist in the video has become that which he is complaining about.

It's a load of ultra nationalistic crying about how people's rights to say what they want now have consequences and how oppressed the far right are now.

The only thing missing was a final line saying something like, "Oh hang on, this "oppression" we are feeling is what you have been experiencing from our movement right from the beginning, isn't it ? Damn.."

I know an ultra nationalist and it's all they ever moan about. They do not like scrutiny or accountability, or being on the receiving end of the same oppression they've dished out over their life. Cry me a river.

Not crying you do realize the woman in the video is trans gender. Guess she does not have a say in her everyday life. Guess her choice do not conform to your agenda.

I was more focussed on the lyrics than the imagery, as that is where the real power of a song comes from (at least according to my old song writing tutor).

Looking at the video again, if she is transgender that's her choice not mine. My concern is is she being used as a political dog whistle ? Knowingly or unknowingly ? Or is she using her transgender as a dog whistle herself ?

Both the left and right have very slick propaganda.

Unfortunately the middle ground by their nature tend to avoid polar extremes, however a lot of the world politically is focussed on binary choices, which is a shame.

Of course you going to assume a transgender of her choices on beliefs as a political dog I did not expect anything else. Is she wrong in her assumption because it did not fit your view of a trans gender. She has the same rights and beliefs as you.

I'm totally confused by what you are saying.

1. I did not even notice the transgender person until you pointed it out.

2. When I re-watched the video and noticed it, my comment was about her possibly being used as a political dog whistle. Knowingly or unknowingly.

Looking at the video from a propaganda viewpoint, on a 3rd watch it does come across as a deliberate attempt to say, "We may be ultra nationalistic, but hey here's a transgender person in our video, so we must be cute and cuddly and inclusive".

Then again, the lady in the video as you say has her own rights and beliefs too and may genuinely support the message.

However I cannot imagine any of my transgender friends willing to be in a similar video with the same political messaging.

But there are always outliers I suppose.

I think this video/song would make a very interesting case for political and image disassembly/breakdown, preferably by a graduate in media/political studies. Fascinating stuff !

Free will she volunteered because of her beliefs of a " nationalist" pride . Is she wrong in her assumption ? Different opinions is not right now unless it has to fit your narrative ?

You condemning her for her choice aka. political dog. Even though it's a independent label immune to the cancel culture. I think her choices trump your affiliation. She does not bend at the knees to the powers that be. No big corp no government well maybe I wrong that is freedom of expression at its finest.

Have you heard the term "Dog Whistle Politics" ? That's what I am referring to. I have no idea what you are babbling on about.

"

I think you'll find that nothing is immune to the cancel culture. Which in and of itself is a ridiculous term anyway. No one is being cancelled. You cancel TV shows. Gym membership. A restaurant booking.

What is being "cancelled" is other people's shitty and inappropriate behaviour. They are being asked to explain themselves, and quite rightly too.

What does "trump my affiliation" even mean ? I didn't realise it was a competition. What on earth are you talking about ?

"

Freedom of expression is fine.

So are swift consequences if that expression is hateful, harmful, illegal, incites violence, oppresses, and is all round general shitty behaviour.

My observation still stands, about the political messaging of the video, and whether the inclusion of a traditionally marginalised by the more conservative elements of society person in said video was a deliberate attempt at dog whistle politics (please look up that term), or whether she chose to be part of it of her own accord.

I am interested in the motivations behind the video and the participants. It feels like the whole video is one long "Oh poor us, we cannot say shitty things anymore because we get called out on them".

And yet he says the same shitty behavior you fear. So does she why? They cannot say their point of view without retribution. Isn't it not truth ? Name 1 bar that is a a denial of facts.

We both love Tom Mcdonald. He's definitely a very honest artist, we don't always agree with everything he says but he is definitely speaking facts.

Contrary to what the other person is commenting, he is definitely not a ultra nationalist. He has song criticing America. Plus plenty of support from minoritys, the prove of that is the hundreds of reactions videos to is music.

But obviously if you are the type that can tolerate the opinion of others, you will definitely call him racist, transphobic, etc.
