According to reports the Stonewall organisation wants organisations to stop using the word Mother as it is not gender neutral. Instead they should be called, 'Parents who have given birth' So MILFs are out and PILFs are in..

Any Mum's on fab have a view?

I’m a woman (born one and my choice of gender) and a Mother (actually gave birth). I don’t want to be called a Milf or Pilf. Gender issues are becoming ridiculous in my opinion. Happy to call anyone what they wish but I am secure in who I am.

But how can it be:

"Parents who have given birth"?

There is only one of you that goes through it, not both.

It's as bad as when couples say:

"We are pregnant"

There is no "we" about it, its only one person who is pregnant yet again.

It should be:

"We are having a baby" or something along those lines.

Just my opinion obviously

I'll stick with being called a mother. I notice the news reports don't mention banning the word 'father', and what about people who have adopted their children? They are no less mothers and fathers just because they didn't physically give birth. I'm all for people identifying however they want and using their preferred pronouns, but I take exception to having my identity as a mother obliterated.

Its to include a person who was born a female but later transitioned and/or identifies as male who becomes pregnant and gives birth, some have concludes that it is bigoted to make statements such as women get pregnant/ women give birth women menstrate as it excludes people who identify as male but still are able to do all those things.... But I agree with whoever said I don't want to be called a milf or a pilf

Yeah, I have a view.

I'm 100% supportive of all and I think it's fantastic that acceptance of the variences in how people identify is becoming better accepted. However, why is it then at the cost of MY identity as a woman rather that a 'person with a uterus' and as a Mother. Am I to be open to others identity at the cost of my own? Why, why does my identity have to be replaced?

I am a woman and a mother and I will continue to be such.

I looked and got this...

'Hundreds of organisations wanting to be included on Stonewall's equality leaderboard should replace the term 'mother' with 'parent who has given birth', the LGBT charity has said.

The controversial group has issued various guidance to employers wanting to make the cut on its Workplace Equality Index, which has attracted more than 500 applications in the last year.'

I went for a classy link.

"STONEWALL has reportedly told organisations to replace the word 'mother' with 'parent who has given birth'.

The LGBT charity advised employers that want to be placed on its Workplace Equality Index that they have to remove "gendered language"

However I would say don’t assert trans rights/identity by taking mine away.

Around 6,000 children will have died today from preventable diseases.

The reason why developed nations have drama around what label they intend to wear today is because this isn’t happening where they live.

Perspective would be so nice wouldn’t it?

Im a mum but in saying that it's not taking anything away from anyone else.

I do think all the labelling is becoming a bit ott though as no one can say anything without fear of offending someone.

Somewhere near here

I believe it’s down to the individual and circumstance. Individuals can choose their own pronouns and what they identify for themselves. I don’t understand why that should be an argument. That also includes someone telling us to call all parents and not mothers, if I choose to be mother then that is fine, if I choose to be parent, that too is fine. I tend to use language in a none gendered way, i don’t like the thought of singling people out who might identify opposite otherwise. It might be worth throwing my two pence in and saying not all pregnant people are mothers.

i agree with you and it was never a uterus that made someone a mother anyway - how many adoptive parents get called mum, how many guys who didn't contribute the sperm take on the father role for their partners kids …. so if you used to be a woman and now identify as a male thats fine - you can be dad, and vice versa for trans women - where is the problem?

Male parents can actually use an SNS. I'm aware of same-sex male parents who've used them, for example.... Often in conjunction with bottle feeding if there's no breast involved, but still, it's possible for no nipple or breast to be involved in an SNS.

Most of the examples I've seen DID involve latching on, just to a nipple that didn't have milk on the other side, so the SNS did the bit that the milk ducts would otherwise do. The idea is to allow the parent and baby to have a breastfeeding relationship.

Kellymom is a good breastfeeding advice site, they have an article entitled "Transgender parents and chest/breastfeeding" which may be of interest.

the more i think about this the more i am torn, i can see how a trans woman can feel excluded by some terms, and how women clinging on to them sends a message ok i was kind of for your equality but only if i actually was slightly superior to that - which i can see is wrong

but the other half of me says this isn’t about equality, its about identity, and trans people have had the opportunity to define their identity, yet many women have identified as mothers for a very long time and that identity is now being removed from them - and i can also see that is wrong

all it leaves me with is i have no idea what the right answer is, in this specific case i do think mother and father have always been inclusive and never had to mean biological so a trans person can still just adopt the term of their chosen gender (and presumably we need a new term for gender fluid) but in more generalised gender language it is hard to provide equality to one group without eroding the identity of another

I get called a milf even though I've had no children. Seems age is the only criteria for some

I also don't think its just about trans. As I've just posted, a lot of guys assume anyone over thd age of 30 is a milf. For those who struggle to conceive or who simply cannot be a milf it can be very upsetting.

I give my full support to every sexual identify but there are some that follow blindly, incapable of debate, pouring scorn on the poster, scorn on the source and use the 'if your not with us your against us strategy'.

Essex Tom often tackles the difficult topics, Diversity, Racism, Identity Politics, Brown Sauce or Ketchup, UFOs, Alien Life, Sharks and Crocodiles. Some then put their prejudice on to him. They think he is a racist, bigoted, homophobic, sexist, mysognist, misandric, Lionel despising moron. He is none of these things. Now he will concentrate on his latest dog ears thread.....

I would hazard a guess that the individual parents be they mothers, fathers or whoever aren't really that bothered & know their situation is not the established norm & just want to get on with their life quietly. What you have here is an organisation run by crackpots trying to create publicity for themselves as they become ever less relevant in how people choose to identify & just get on with their lives day to day.

As much as I hate to support the OP and his views, I saw this on the Beeb website a few days ago.

Not seen anything about Step-Pilfs, or Pilfs-in-law though

Total lunacy!!!
